Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a motorcycle helmet (DOT approved), but that's NOT what I used for cars on track days.
Leading evidence: 'Use cars' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check w/ your group and their requirements' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Some DEs will allow you to run an "M" helmet (which are cheaper) but if you get into the sport more in the future an SA rated helmet will be required for most events so maybe worth considering from the get-go.

An SA2015 helmet would fulfill requirements at most any track at any level of racing (at higher levels adding a HANS if you are running 5/6 point harnesses).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to participate in my first DE event in September with the Risentoter club. I need to buy a helmet. Does anyone know if helmets are available to borrow on the day of or the best place to purchase one?
Not to sure I want to buy one because I have a convertible so I'm limited in the types of events I can even participate in. For example, this event will only allow me to do Green with a convertible. I can't ever progress to higher levels unless I get a fixed rollbar which is counterintuitive for my top free lifestyle. Help is appreciated.
My CEL popped on for the first time today since I bought it. She gets the code read on Wednesday. Pray for me....
You should contact the event organizers to see if they have loaner helmets. Some clubs do, some don't.
If you are not sure, a Pyrotect helmet is about the cheapest option for a good-quality full-face helmet. For ~$250 or something you can get a good helmet that will last for many years, so it's not a huge investment. You could re-sell it if you choose not to continue with track stuff and get at least half your money back.
I'd get that CEL checked out and nailed down before going to the track! You want your car to be in good shape so A) you don't break it and B) you aren't distracted/worried about it.

I have seen some groups require a closed face helmet for convertibles, no open face helmets allowed. Some don't allow open face helmets at all, convertible or closed. There are open faced SA2015 helmets out there.
Be sure to check (and understand) the Snell rating - you may get a smokin' deal on a helmet that expires next year.
Our club has rental helmets; not sure about others. Sometimes there are enough people that they need to hot-swap the helmets. There are many things in life worse than putting on a helmet that's already drenched with someone else's sweat, but that one seems pretty damn gross at the time. Do yourself a favor and buy your own...there's a limit to how much sweat a headsock can soak up.
Some people can't handle full-face helmets. If you haven't tried a full-face helmet, borrow one and go along for a couple of laps, ideally in a track-prepped 911 with a harness for the passenger seat that smokes and stinks to high heaven. If this makes you want to puke, don't buy a full-face helmet of your own to puke into.
Me, I prefer full-face - I think it strokes my semi-subconscious "I'm the Stig" mentality...
Hi Akshun,
I'm actually the Safety Chair for Riesentoter. We generally do not have helmets available to lend, but PM me and we may be able to figure something out.
Or, looks like this place rents helmets:

Disclaimer: I know nothing about them, just googled it see if someone was doing it.
I also have a convertible and run HPDE events with it. My local PCA region (San Diego) doesn't have any bans on convertible 996s and neither do any other local event groups. In my opinion, your head is one of the things you shouldn't skimp on protecting. I bought an Arai GP-5 helmet (Approximately $800) and haven't looked back. It's extremely comfortable, and the GP5 and GP6 are the gold standards for helmets. info:

I've been thinking of participating in this event.
Kris, are M helmets now acceptable for RTR DE and AX events? I've participated in both events with RTR in the past and I thought M helmets were not allowed. Perhaps I was mistaken. I thought the rules required SA helmets for all track and AX events. However, I now see on the RTR site (or perhaps it was a link provided on that site) that M helmets are now permitted for the club's DE events (not sure if this also applies to AX events). Can you clarify this issue? Are M helmets permitted for use in RTR AX events? Thanks for your help.
Agree. Considering that folks an get a Snell SA 2015 rated helmet now for under $200 in Amazon, it's worth protecting the head. I have a motorcycle helmet (DOT approved), but that's NOT what I used for cars on track days. Technically, it should not be used.
You can spend a lot more money on a helmet, but the cost isn't necessarily put into the safety of the helmet, but rather, features, comfort, etc.
+1 for Zamp brain buckets. I got mine from Wine Country Motorsports in WPB, Florida.
Trying it on saves a ton of aggravation compared to buying one off the internet only to find it doesn't fit. An ill-fitting helmet on a DE day is not good.
I "knew" my size based on the motorcycle helmets I own, but when I tried a Zamp in that size, it was way off.
Go to a store and try them on. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a helmet that fits properly. An ill fitting helmet will cause added stress when you're using it.
You can also look into renting a car when you move out of the beginner group.
