Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also changed the oil and inspected the filter carefully.

Check the oil for junk when the time comes to change it, and replace things as they break.

Suggestion
At the very least change your oil filter regularly and cut it open to look for metal, you can buy filters for $6 or so and you lose about 0.7 quarts of oil, the cheapest of cheap insurance
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought an 01 Cab with 93k miles on the clock for Civic money. Im just driving it and hoping I don't have a major failure , but I don't see spending $1000 on something that might not fail.
What percent of drivers are just like me either unaware or risk takers?
69 known modes of failure is why you got a 100k car 15 years later for civic money.
It appears from your post that no PPI was done and you dont give any service history on the car. Maybe why it was civic money.
Two schools of thought.
a. change all the fluids, drop sump plate and inspect oil filter and drive the car assuming nothing exciting shows up
b. start replacing known to fail parts before they fail
There is no end insight once you start down the path of replacing parts before they fail.
Also depends on how much time and money you have to throw at the car.
This topic has been beat to death over and over. But I think it narrows down to a or b.
yup. at local car meets I tell people about my build and there's more of them that have never heard of LNE, F6I, etc. it actually suprise me.
kind of jealous TBH. they all really enjoy their cars and don't seem to worry.
IMS is not the only gotcha on these cars, however your 01 has a single row bearing.
At 93k your clutch is probably done or close to it, have you thought about that? At around $200 a pelican parts replacement IMS bearing is a good low cost option if you are in there for a clutch anyway.
Uh oh. I did escape from Tech many years ago.
I started fixing all the small things that were wrong with it when I bought it about 6 months ago. I also changed the oil and inspected the filter carefully. It was very clean. Almost no particles. I installed a magnetic drain plug and bought new motor mounts that I will install this weekend. Almost 91k on the car now. I drive it when I want to. If it dies, so be it. I will do a major PM on it this fall if I get the chance, but it looks like my job will keep me very busy until the end of the year.

In March I purchased an '04 C4S. I had a PPI done (Post Purchase Inspection) the mechanic has been doing mostly Porsches for 40+ years. His personal opinion was everything looks great. I trust a man recommended by PCA who has wrenched on these cars many years. When/if it fails I do have the money set aside fix this 911 and to hand this awesome car down. I plan on it being in the family for generations to come.
If it's not keeping you up at night worrying about it, then drive it and enjoy it. Check the oil for junk when the time comes to change it, and replace things as they break. Most people I talk to with these cars just drive them like any other car and don't have any idea about all the crazy ways they fail. I wish I could ignore the what ifs, life would be a lot cheaper and less stressful.
I sometimes really hate RL This thread is a prime example of why I feel this way. Actually, I don't hate RL as a whole...I just hate what this 996 forum has become.
Perhaps one day the 996 Forum will revert back to the rational and informative forum that it once was and cease to be the Domesday infomercial that it has become for certain vendors who sponsor this garbage. Until then, I'll continue to mostly avoid this forum...
What kind of civic money are we talking? Beat up 1995 lx off Craigslist, or low mile si on BAT?
Does used civic money mattter to you or can you sneeze and loose used civic money and have no worries?
I'm new here, but I see quite a few people taking things to heart, even at the smallest iota of sarcasm. I've gotten a ton of helpful responses when I've had issues, but I think when it comes to fear mongering that their 996 is going to blow up, it gets a little repetitive (even to me). There is an abundance of knowledge here, but sometimes I feel like my kindergarten teacher lied when she said there's no such thing as stupid questions.
Drive it.. Thats my plan on my 04 C4S.. I am taking care of all fluids and oil changes but I am not going to worry about the engine. I am budgeting and planning to do a LS3 swap should anything bad happen to the engine. Just seems like a waste to really worry about it however I do have in the back of my mind at all times the cost of doing the LS3 swap if anything crazy were to happen.
Drive it. Enjoy it. Take care of it. If it blows up then worry about it.
Confession time: My first year on the forum I was hesitant to drive my car anywhere for fear of the 996 modes of failure(which I knew nothing about before purchase) or perhaps it might get door dinged or hit. FOLKS...THESE ARE JUST CARS! Nothing more...Nothing less. I love mine-enjoy the heck out of it and take care of it, how I drive it and where I park it it but not much more carefully than my 2009 Rav 4.
Many years ago I taught high school. I would tell my students: There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there is such a thing as stupid people asking questions.

I drove the 993 as a daily driver, did my own maintenance and loved every mile.
I will do the same with this one . I will look at a $200 fix when the clutch goes.
I'm not going to fix what isn't broken. Fix as it breaks makes better sense to me.
This is a driver, not to be polished with a diaper or shown but Driven.
So I'm thinking about half of you fix everything before it breaks and think I'm stark raving Mad and the rest of you get my logic.
Thanks!!
