Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I received my short shifter drop in yesterday....haven't had chance to tackle yet....instructions seem pretty straight forward for a DIY.....who's used the FF drop in? Any feedback on how it went during install? Thanks guys

POST 2Original post

I put one in a few months ago. they are nicely made. getting the gear **** is probably the hardest bit. don't forget to mark the cables or have the centering tool. I are really enjoying the shorter shift, although it feels totally normal now.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I see marking is very important

POST 4Original post

Also take care when lifting the console out to lift a little and reach up under to unplug the hatch lid sensor, or you can pull it out or break the tiny tab.

POST 5Original post

Cool glad you are happy with it. I have been considering the FF bearing upgrade vs. going with a 997 or 997 GT3 shifter. I have seen comparisons of the 997 vs GT3 shifter but never one with the FF shifter vs either of those other options. I saw a video on installing the FF kit yourself on your existing shifter, it doesn't look too bad to do but the drop in doesn't cost much more and maybe not worth the PITA to install the kit yourself.

POST 6Original post

I did Ben's shifter kit and it works brilliantly. Did take a little getting used to as the throw is considerably shorter and shifter "feels" shorter in height. Loving it though. Very crisp and zero play.

POST 7Original post

Did Ben's shifter kit on 2 996, easy install with video, great product and inexpensive.

POST 8Original post

Just had Kachel Motor Company in Lawrence, MA installed a 997 GT3 shifter in my 2004 996 and very happy with the results. More direct, shorter and no play.
