Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
It is very important to have a check list for this type of situation.
Leading evidence: 'Check list' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check list' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Set emergency brake and the car took it upon itself

Dumbnutz forgot to set the emergency brake and the car took it upon itself to roll forward of its own free will.

My revisionist theory is that I did set the emergency brake, but due to my recent elbow surgery, I did not set it properly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Arghhh. Pulled into a parking garage this morning and parked in the end spot (of course). I was finishing a phone conversation, so I put the car in neutral and about 1 minute into the call I felt the call lurch forward and hit the metal guard around the concrete support column. At first I thought someone hit me from behind, but after further investigation, Mr. Dumbnutz forgot to set the emergency brake and the car took it upon itself to roll forward of its own free will. Or, I just took my foot off the brake.
Of course, a nice very slight crease in the front bumper right next to the headlight. Literally mm's away from taking out the running lights.
No texting while driving. No talking while parking...
bummer. Have you considered suing?
- phone company
- parking lot attendant's estate
- Porsche/VW AG
- McDonald's (for fun)
- Nearby small business proprietors
I have memorized a six step procedure for stopping and parking. It is very important to have a check list for this type of situation. It also includes one additional check list item for backing out of the garage and leaving - remembering to close the garage door. Don't know how many times I've left and had to turn around because I can't remember if I closed the door. Mostly at that point, I just pull back into the garage and end the day.
Sorry to hear that Gonzo, nothing worse to give a person the heebie jeebies when you feel *call lurch forward* touch you. I've seen it happen in the subway when people are on the phones waiting for the train. They get caught up in the conversation and then the "call lurch" comes and pushes them slightly forward (pass the yellow warning line) and then they fall in the path of the train. squash!
Well, glad everything is okay. It could have been worse.
Easily done if you are an absent minded plonker same as I am. On a snowy day about 5 years ago, I left my jeep parked (with dog on board) outside a bank which was situated adjacent to a Mall car park. Came out from the bank and thought that my jeep had been stolen. I kid you not that the jeep was backed into a snow drift on the other side of the Mall car park some 100 yards from where I parked it. How it missed all those other cars (going backward BTW) I still wonder to this day.
How do I become a spider?
Yeah..a mostly non moving violation with only one car and one driver to blame. I am a lame-o.
My revisionist theory is that I did set the emergency brake, but due to my recent elbow surgery, I did not set it properly. Hence the roll. Hence the hickey.
By the way, did I mention that's one lucky spider?
Heh. I admitted to an "unsafe backing" incident a few years back when I just completely tarded out and backed the wife's SUV into a car when leaving a parallel parking space. Mentally, I went from competent to "Doo-dee-doooo...*crunch*.
Minor deal, but my f*****g conscience required me to leave a note.
