I use shell vpower with nitro +, it was developed by shell and ferrari

I'll run BJs on the next tank and give RP the credit if my car continues to run without that occasional hesitation.

I did run a bottle of Royal Purple Max-clean in the last tank full of BJ's gas.

I have found running Chevron gasoline -- after running Shell for a few years -- after just a few tanks had my Boxster engine running noticeably better.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
It might be my imagination, but I think BJs 93 octane gas may not be the best thing for my car. I have been using it for 3 months and all along my car will occasionally stutter as if the O2 sensor is a starting to go bad. Recently I used some Royal Purple octane booster and may have noticed a slight improvement. Lastly, I filled up with Sunoco 93 and have run about 40 miles. I haven't noticed the stutter that occasionally happends around 3000 RPMs. Does anyone have any comments about this? I wonder if getting super for $2.29 is just not possible. Sunoco sells it for $2.85 in my area, but it's worth it if my car likes it.
Thanks for the feedback. We both live in CT so chances are good that the BJs gas is similar, I guess. I'll keep on eye on my situation and report back.
Was told by the BMW mechanic when I was having problems with the DFI on the new n54 engines not to use gas from warehouse clubs or grocery stores or conveince stores that are not owned by a oil copmpany. He said that the problem is that their gas is inconsistant and they get the gas for the cheapest price and always different. BP always has BP gas with their additives, Shell always Shell, etc.
I believe that happens, but not really sure of there is a quailty difference.
Use a :Top Tier' listed gas. (Google it if you don't know what it is). There are many choices out there and they meet a set quality and additive standard.
a cheap gas is cheap because they dont put detergents and additives in it. the additives are for making the engine run clean. the good gas always have additives to clean and enhance performance. I use shell vpower with nitro +, it was developed by shell and ferrari
All gasoline is basically the same. Around here, it comes from one of two refineries. The only difference is the additive package that is added when the trucks are filled at the depots. Each brand has their own additive package.
Top Tier can provide some piece of mind if you need it. Again, it is another set of additives.

Tough decisions here. Not really knowing how much one station is better than the other. I do know that I drive over 20k miles a year and average about 20mpg. The price club gas is about $.50 less per gallon for 93 octane. That means I pay about $600 less per year in gas by going to my price club. Then if I add something like chevron techron every few months...... Geez, this feels like a "oil" thread. I guess I'll just do whatever makes me feel better. ha.
I've been using CostCo gas for the last year and it's been great, including at the drag strip last night. No issues. It's TopTier.
You have no way of knowing if a Shell station is actually owned by Shell or a franchisee without going in and asking. And no, just because the sign says Shell does NOT mean that the product was made at a Shell refinery. A lot of gasoline marketing is just that, marketing.
What CAN make a difference is the freshness of the gas. So a little gas station in the woods is more likely to have "older" gas with potentially water seeping in than a high volume station, ironically something like a CostCo.
In the end use what works best for your car and shop around until you find something you are happy with. I doubt the BMW mechanic really knows anything about gas but it's a great way to explain a problem with the engine...Did the problem clear up once different gas was used?
Hi All. New owner of an '02 Carrera cabriolet, Silver on Blue. Loving it so far. We also have 2 Chevys, a '15 SS Sedan and a '16 Vette. I exclusively use Shell 93 octane gas and have had great results. Lots of power and smooth delivery on all 3 cars.
I don't respond often but I read almost every post and have learned a lot already from the forum.
Super! If you learned alot as you say, then go to the "What have you learned since joining Rennlist?" thread and make a comment. Thanks!

Have no experience with BJ gasoline.
IIRC in the owners manual Porsche recommends if the engine reacts unfavorably to a brand of gasoline to try another brand. Stay with the recommended grade of octane.
A gas (petrol) test in a UK car mag some few years ago found discount (supermarket) gasoline often to be sub-par and this was attributed to the inconsistency of the gasoline. These stations live on lower prices and as such shop for low cost gasoline. This may not be the best or highest quality gasoline and one can have a good experience one fill up and a bad on the next.
Also, even with normally good gasoline the test found differences. This was attributed to staleness. Premium gasoline goes stale quicker than regular so you want to buy from a busy station.
I have found running Chevron gasoline -- after running Shell for a few years -- after just a few tanks had my Boxster engine running noticeably better. That Techron really works.
You might try a bottle of Techron. A bottle treats IIRC 20 gallons. Just dump in the entire bottle and then fill up the fuel tank to ensure the stuff is mixed.
Drive the car as you would normally. The advice is to if you notice an improvement to when the tank is low down to say 1/4 of a tank to add a 2nd bottle and fill up the tank.
After the 2nd tank with Techron is nearly gone it is advisable to have the oil/filter service done as Techron can result in an increase in engine oil contamination.
figure you pay less for no name gas w/out additives. the engine is constantly getting dirty, then you pay $8 for a cleaner, to counteract the gunked up engine. it would take several rounds of cleaner to completely fix it. Then you go back to cheap gas, the engine starts getting dirty again. untill you have to clean it out again.
as for shell, not using shell gas? if it says shell 93 vpower nitro + on the pump, its not? Dont you have any state agricultural commission
I think I owe everyone including BJs an apology. I did run a bottle of Royal Purple Max-clean in the last tank full of BJ's gas. So my experiment is all messed up. I'll run BJs on the next tank and give RP the credit if my car continues to run without that occasional hesitation. Maybe the fuel injectors got cleaned up a little. At least some of us learned something about gas. Buy it from busy stations seems like a no brainer.
