Factory air box is removed and the intake on it does not look very professional (could purchase an air box but who knows how longs its run with this setup on it).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, Im looking at a 99 996 with factory Aero kit. Im just not a fan of the C shaped or "taco" wing (as I've heard it referred to as). I do like the front bumper and side skirts though. Is it difficult to swap the rear deck lid to a standard C2 deck lid? Would modifications be needed or would it be plug and play and would the electrical be there for the standard deck to still deploy the spoiler? Would this devalue the car being it's a factory aero kit? Thank you

POST 2Original post

Once you have a car with the aero kit......you won't want to remove the TACO spoiler......you'll love it. Get the car, wait and week, then ask if it can be removed. Trust me, you won't want to remove it. It's a one of a kind. Basically nothing out there like it.

POST 3Original post

It's plug and play, four bolts and a wiring harness plug. You may need to fiddle a bit to align it. Yes, the car will raise the spoiler. It's determined by the decklid side of the wiring harness. The aerokit has a different harness. If you remove it, I'd save it. It will be valuable to future buyers, and impact the value of your car. If you don't have an unusual color, you can probably find one that matches on ebay or a wrecker.

POST 4Original post

My buddies 1999 aero that sold on BAT last month had the spoiler removed by a body shop a couple of years. I took the pics and did the videos for the BAT listing. The body shop receipt was for around 2600 dollars for a perfectly painted (both sides) decklid with everything switched over. That basically was what the taco wings sell for second hand I believe.

I had mine listed on craigslist when I purchased my Porsche because I didn't like it... after about 1 week I took it off and its on my car now. It does seem to grow on you to the point of everyone elses looks lame compared to you taco

POST 6Original post

I don't blame you - I've never been a fan of "The Taco" - just looks a little over the top to me (I think it's also a "drag" aerodynamically). One thing I can say though, is that it's matched aerodynamically to the front bumper so if you plan on doing any high speed driving "sans taco", there's the potential for the car to become unsettled so be careful. If I were you I'd look for something that creates similar down-force but works for your aesthetic sense (I'm not sure there is such a thing, but ideally it would be the way to go). Good luck

POST 7Original post

I think the Taco wing looks great, but you do have a few other options for fixed spoiler. There is a GT3 wing FS in the classifieds for under 1k. Also you could go with the Aero Kit II wing from the later models. I personally agree with the previous comment of buy it, live with it for a little and see if it grows on you. To me it's a truly vintage look and gives the car some aggressive character.

POST 8Original post

Dump the taco! MKII aero for the win! Everyone except Rennlist (and occasional 996Outpost) weenies agree!

POST 9Original post

To each their own. I'm not a fan of big wings on any car, they always remind me of a shopping cart handle.

POST 10Original post

I went the other way. Mine had only the Aerokit front bumper when I bought it. I added a taco, then the sideskirts. My original deck is stored in the attic. Since I won’t ever go back, or sell my 996, I should sell my old deck. Or I’ll trade you for your taco if your car is Seal Grey.

POST 11Original post

I'll trade a regular lid for the taco. i will be happy to paint it for you in any color at my cost. yes, i do love the taco.

Is there such a thing as an "eye worm", because now I can't get that picture out of my head.

You should take Lowpue up on his offer.

This. I swap back and forth. Don't get rid of it, decklids are cheap and plentiful.

POST 15Original post

Also, was the Taco/Aero factory spec'd and delivered new with the car? If so, I would be very hesitant to give it up. That is a rare factory setup.

POST 16Original post

Another option might be the factory spoiler for the cab. Less aggressive since the clamshell moves over the top, but supposedly fully functional. I'd send a pic of mine, but currently flying. If you go this route, definitely get another deck lid to mount it to so you can go back if/when you like.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all for your input on the subject. The listing does state it is an OEM aero kit. I haven't had a chance to go take a look at the car yet as its not in my town. A couple other things with the car have me a little hesitant to make the trip. Factory air box is removed and the intake on it does not look very professional (could purchase an air box but who knows how longs its run with this setup on it). When it comes to vehicles Im mostly of a fan of stock equipment, with a few exceptions here and there. Its a 99 with 94k listed at $19,900. If I do end up with it and decide to swap the deck lid I will contact anyone who was willing to swap. Thanks all!

POST 19Original post

If you don't buy it, pass the info along. Some people here are gaga over '99 aerokits.

As they should be.

POST 21Original post

I'll take the car, the aero kit, the taco, the shifter ****, hell - I'll take the air in the tires of a taco equipped car. If it's silver or gray I can wrap it I guess. In 20 years, the taco cars are going to be worth 30% greater or maybe more over plain-Jane coupe. Give me taco or give me death.

What color is it? I will have it ready for you👍

POST 23Original post

I must admit, I never was a fan of the "Taco Wing" (or any wing) but they have grown on me over the years.

POST 25Original post

I like it. LSD. Sports seats. Aero. Color. Headlights. New wheels and put the pumpkins back on.... If it's all factory, and you say u like stock/factory, why would you remove Taco? Plenty of black C2's around.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im torn on it. The pumpkins?

POST 27Original post

The "Lobster Forks" need to go! Pumpkins on black works for me...I put .1 taillights on my .2.

POST 28Original post

Pumpkins = orange marker lense on front fenders. In my short time with a 996, I'm starting to appreciate the early cars more.

POST 29Original post

I like the pumpkins and the tails, however why remove the orange sidemarkers if you've embraced it every where else. Also not a huge fan of the lobsters on that car. I think a set of OEM Mesh Sport Classic II would look incredible on that car.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are are starting to convince me more and more to go check it out this weekend!

It's the only way to find the right car...Get on it and report back! I'd bet he has the stock air box. 10 min swap and you can sell the K&N for $175.00 quickly.

POST 32Original post

Upgraded coolant cap as well. 😊 I'd road trip that back home to mn for sure....if it passed my inspection. From here, it looks like a nice canadite. Like Bill says, only one way to know.
