I replaced the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator, and all seems good.

I am login to bring the unit away to get the diodes tested for the stater ring before I put it back on, but just wonder what other may have to say about my situation.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So In June my battery light and abs light came on. I replaced the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator, and all seems good. Last week, about a month later, I had driven the car on a super hot day and spent about 15 minutes inside a shop. Got back in, all fine, but I was accelerating onto the main road, there was an ever so slight hesitation, and my two amigo lights came back on. So thinking i blew the Voltage regulator again. Besides the engine to chassis ground what else should I check. I am login to bring the unit away to get the diodes tested for the stater ring before I put it back on, but just wonder what other may have to say about my situation. I did order 2 VRs expecting it may take some time to find the culprit. thanks -- rr

POST 2Original post

If you have a local Alternator re-builder you could take it to him and have him check it out. Short of that, I'm pretty sure you can get a new Bosch alternator of the correct type for between $250 - $400...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea was thinking that is where I need to go next. Like I said, I purchased two regulators, just dropped a new one in, and all good for now. was reading that they go bad secondary to voltage spikes. This one shorted out. My battery was flat. Did the recondition on the CTEK which is a great battery tender BTW. Will see what happens. leaving the replacement one in the car.

Your local auto parts can source a replacement alternator for about $150.00 eBay as low as 89.00 and free shipping! This past spring I installed an Advance auto alternator in my friends 996 and its been working fine. They come with new brushes and a voltage regulator.
