Your plugs are fouled so they should be replaced or at least cleaned for the initial start up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have just installed a new to me used engine in my 996 C2 2002. It started up as it should and I let it idle and reved occasionally while I filled up with coolant fluid. After 15-20 min it just stopped while idling. I found out that cylinder 3 was full of oil (maybe 300 ml + 200 ml in the intake manifold). The oil just poured out when I removed the spark plug. The other spark plugs were also oily.
Somehow the oil must have been sucked up through the AOS. I have a motorsport AOS, if it matters.
The only unusual thing that I did was putting the engine on the fly wheel side on the table before installation (I thought the engine was dry on oil but it actually contained a lot of oil). The reason for this was to make it easier to install the outlet manifolds. After that I drained the old oil and installed my sump and motorsport AOS and added new oil. The AOS came from my old engine that had a terminal failure on track last year (seized con rod bearing).
I don't think I overfilled the engine with oil. When I drained the oil afterwards I got about 8,5 liters without removing the oil filter. I have a deep oil sump so it seems like a reasonable amount of oil (=no overfill).
The question is, why did I get this much oil in the cylinder/intake manifold?
Robert
The AOS wasnt installed when I tilted the engine and I had no spark plugs installed either. The AOS is about 5 years old.
Any ideas what I should do now?

Porschetech3 gave me some good info in my "Blown Motor post". I suggest you follow what he suggested to me. Belt off, rotate crank by hand (wrench) 720* (don't force it) . Hopefully you didn't bend a rod while hydro-locking it. Let me find my old post first.

Ifyou can turn by hand with no issues, I would disconnect the AOS at the TB and plug off the TB side and start engine to see how it sounds, good pressure and see if smoke starts to clear after a few min..
Great thread! Thanks! I asked my mechanic if my AOS was blown after my engine detonated at 6-7000 RPM on the track, but he didn't think so. But now I wonder if my problem isn't as simple as a blown AOS ...

I'd say it's a good chance. Follow the guidance given in that thread...Pop off the vent line to the intake and plug the intake hole. Get all the oil out of the cylinders. I would hand turn the crank (clockwise) and feel for anything unusual. Your plugs are fouled so they should be replaced or at least cleaned for the initial start up. Prepare for oil to get everywhere when you crank it.
Use a Bore scope before it gets started,, check the valves,
its not worth running the motor at all if its been hydro locked.
A slightly painful repair could transition to a BIg repair.
