Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ive checked the exhaust, which I assumed it was, but everything seems fine.
Leading evidence: 'Check exhaust' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check each pulley and or accessory' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

If so, check each pulley and or accessory for rough spinning/loose/noise.

I forgot to mention that - also no change with clutch in or out.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Noticed my car has been making a metallic rattle sound. Seems to start around 3k rpm and goes away shortly after (or the engine noise is just too loud to hear it.)
Ive checked the exhaust, which I assumed it was, but everything seems fine. I pulled the serpentine belt off to rule out any of the belt driven accessories and it still makes the noise.
Sounds like its coming from the crank pulley area. I only really hear it when lightly accelerating in 1st gear, maybe 2nd as well passing 3k rpm. Does it in nuetral as well.
Video below is not mine, found it in the 997 forum. My car does not sound this bad, but its a very similar sound.
Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe your belt/accessory drives/pulleys. Take off belt and start cold engine, see if noise is gone...
If so, check each pulley and or accessory for rough spinning/loose/noise.
it just might be belt coming apart...?
Don't run engine long without belt on it. Just long enough to test for your noise.
Well, hard to tell from video. Much easier standing next to car/driving car/ walking around car, but doesn't sound like internal engine noise to me. don't hold me to that...
Maybe muffler or cats coming apart and rattling...? Or heat shields rattling..?
Engine off, jack car up, bang on mufflers/cats with palm of hand, see if you hear any rattles. check if heat shields are loose rattling.
Yeah I know, super tough to diagnose a noise on the internet but I do appreciate the help.
I banged around on the exhaust with a rubber mallet for a bit - mufflers, cats, and the piping, but everything seems solid with no rattles. Ive checked the heat shields and havent found anything either.
Ive never heard these engines with timing chain rattle or anything like that, so I was curious to see if anyone commented re: that.
Was reading up that the Variocam kicks in around 3k RPM, so curious to hear opinions about that too.
