My engine IMS went because the.first owner didn't change the oil and filter regulary on a time interval, he followed the mileage recommendation for Porsche leading to oil changes every three plus years.

I want this car to last, so when it was due for it's 3,000 mile / 6 month oil change I went ahead and purchased a spin on filter adapter, Napa gold filter, magnetic drain plug, and filter mag from LN (thanks for the update email about the filter MAG sent out Charles).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I purchased a 60,000 mile 04 C4S from Porsche of Orlando back in June. As part of the purchase I had them do the IMS (LN Engineering - but not the solution) RMS and Clutch and change the oil (they did Mobile 1). After purchase I added a few fun parts like Fabspeed intake and Exhaust and maintenance stuff like the belt, mounts and leaking overflow bottle (coils and plugs soon to come). Also pulled the bumper and cleaned the rads. I want this car to last, so when it was due for it's 3,000 mile / 6 month oil change I went ahead and purchased a spin on filter adapter, Napa gold filter, magnetic drain plug, and filter mag from LN (thanks for the update email about the filter MAG sent out Charles). I purchased Joe Gibbs DT-40 from Auto zone and changed it all Monday. I cut the old filter ( OE Porsche) and found nothing - thank god it was as clean as it gets. I installed all of the LN parts and sent a sample out to Black Stone (results not in yet).
This car will never see the track and Is only a every weekend driver.
My question is - is there any other "preventive" items I can do to ensure this things holds together? With all scary fear built into the M96 I want to make sure I give it as much of a chance as possible to last. I'm hoping the internals decide to stay put and just want any advice you have to offer to try to keep them inside the engine.

You have everything covered. Here is my thread on the water pump:

FYI, I bought a house in Wilbur-by-the-Sea earlier this year (Daytona Beach Shores/Ponce Inlet).......can't wait to get my 996 down there! It's going to be at least next winter before I finish the upgrades on the house!
If the brake and transmission fluid hasnt been changed, I would do that. Im not big on repacking items that arent broken. If you look, a lot of the parts on this car are already very high quality and durable and expensive. Often the original parts are just fine. I have a 1949 Chevy that still runs with many original parts. Just change the fluids, keep it garages kept, warm it up by driving slowly before driving aggressively, and most of these cars will be fine.
Most of these items are on the to do list. All very well suggested ideas though. I was a little more interested on stuff that will help prevent a 20k ticket to Flat Six Innovations garage. I know these M96's have so many failure prone items and most likely it will blow one day. I just want to do what ever i can to prolong it.
That's totally wrong, these engines will not always blow up, many have very high mileage without the $20k engine failure. Following the advice you have received so far will keep you smiling for years. My engine IMS went because the.first owner didn't change the oil and filter regulary on a time interval, he followed the mileage recommendation for Porsche leading to oil changes every three plus years. The key, change the oil at least annually, and drive the car .Garage queens have engine problems, well maintained and driven cars won't, after all you've don't it. Just maintain it and enjoy it and stop worrying.
I should add that if you are planning to keep the car a long time and you still can't sleep at night, have the IMS Solution installed. Thats not going to fail.
Trust me, i am not even close to worrying about it. I just want to be pro-active so i won't have to put an engine in it. I will change the oil every 6 months with Driven DT-40 and even though it is not a daily driver it dosent get treated as a garage queen. I drive it every weekend including today which was raining but it still goes out. I wait a good few miles before going much over 3k rpms. Then i have fun beating the hell out of it for my 25 mile drive to work. This car has seen several occasions over 130mph. It brings me a ton of smiles. I plan on keeping it that way. Hence the reason for being pro active than reactive on preventative maintanence. I don't "expect" it to have an engine failure. But i am smart enough to know had Porsche done a better job engineering this engine, some of the people on this forum wouldn't be in bussiness.
Had i known about the solution prior to purchase i would have done that first. But since an LN bearing was just done 6 months ago i will continue with it for now. I will change it for the Solution prior to the end of its service life.
