POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know if the Transceiver / Receiver, that reads the Transponder in the key and sends the signal to the Immobilizer allowing the car to start is part of the ignition switch, part of the whole steering lock assembly, or is it simply one of the wires going into the ignition switch plug? I have searched, but i am not finding anything. I am thinking about installing a push button starter switch, with a aftermarket security system. I have a cloned transponder that i can permanently install in the car, just not sure what part the transceiver is. I could do trial and error, but was hoping someone knew for sure. Thanks!!!

POST 2Original post

Part of the immobilizer that is under the seat and the antenna is in the A-pillar for reception. The alarm/immobilzer receives a transmitted signal from the key for locking/unlocking. There is a passive RFID pill in the key that tells the car that is the right key when placed in the ignition switch. There is a passive receiver in the ignition key surround that reads the RFID pill in the key. That is checked against the immobilizer, and the immobilizer signals the DME/ECU that the key is the right one, and then the DME/ECU allows the car to start. I don't think what you are planning will work.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 14797034, 14797034

You kinda lost me on those two.....I believe the antenna in the A-pillar is probably for the remote door unlock, and maybe the convertible top. I am only worried about the transceiver for the transponder in the key. So its molded into the plastic in the ignition switch? Thanks for the reply, and help!

POST 4Original post

There is a little box that mounts to the top of the ignition assembly. Below is a link to one of my ebay auctions where I just sold the entire kit. I believe (I am sure I will be corrected) that the little black box is what picks up the signal from the pill inside the key. https://www.ebay.com/itm/282809498648 So, if you have an extra coded pill, you could stash it someone near that box and should be fine. That being said, these systems seem to be a little finicky. Unless you have a great reason, I don't think I would try to reengineer how the system works by adding a push button, etc.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks man.... I have a transponder that was cloned from the factory Key, so that will work. My only reasons are, at the very least i can use a non chipped keys... i can do a easy remote start, nice alarm setup with cell phone interface, and go push button start And yes, i agree, the factory stuff can be pretty goofy. keeping the transponder with the transreciever, just seems simpler for me.when adding aftermarket stuff. If there was a immobilizer bypass setup for a 2000 i would dump the whole immobilizer in the trashcan anyways.

POST 6Original post

How did you clone your transceiver. ?? I have a unprogramable key, no barcode.. would love to clone my pill if possible

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i found ONE locksmith in my area that was able to do it... He read my factory key to determine what type. Then he grabbed that key off his shelf (its a VW style key) Cut the key to fit the car. Put the key and new transponder in the ignition and cycled it several times (the new key was evidently memorizing what the transceiver was sending ) then had a computer /transponder writer, that sent the codes to the mother ship (some computer hosted on the internet) and then it flashed the transponder in the key. I didn't think it would work lol, but it did, and only cost me $75.00 .

POST 8Original post

The "VW key type" is a HU66 which is standard for VAG for a number of years. Recently learnt a fair bit about keys when replacing my glove box lock. There was a recent thread on keys that described how the transponder pill/key works. The pill is not the difficult part to clone/program etc its the key less entry that needs to be coded to the car with a PIWIS and to do that you need your cars learning code which Porsche will not give you. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...uestion-3.html IMO I wouldn't do a push start will look and operate out of place in a 996, but hey each to their own.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 14797391

Did you need to give them the car when they cloned the key? Did you have the RFID pill cloned or the whole key including the key less entry?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had the car there, they had to cycle the ignition several times.. it only took 15 minutes. They can not program a keyless remote, only clone a key to start, and drive the car.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 14798485

Thought so, all the videos I watched they had to cycle the ignition too. Correct you need the learning code and a PIWIS to program the keyless entry, the transponder/RFID pill can be hacked/read and re-encoded.

POST 12Original post

Cloning 996 fobs makes me real worried about how happy you will end up being. You can easily get valet key heads for $55 or full remote heads for about $200. It'll work 100% of the time. Whereas with cloning fobs you get into rolling code issues and intermittent starting of the car.

POST 13Original post

I have a cut key, will not start the car. Guess I can try to see if I can clone the pill then worry about the remote unlock

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 14802384

+996 the further I looked into "cloning" the pill less convinced I was. I have a new valet key head and couldn't work out how to insert the pill into it until I realised its actually built into the key head. I'll ask the dealer to program it when I get my next service, its a much better solution to me. You really shouldn't mess with the alarm system when it can basically turn your car into a brick, lock you out or leave you stranded...

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14802384

Where do you get a full remote key for $200 bucks that works? In my area the only option is the dealer, they send your VIN to Porsche, and order the key pre-cut, then they have to program the keyless, and transponder to your car and by the time you leave its over $500.00. I have no problems with my key at all. Really, it is a perfect copy of my original, so i really don't see why i would have a problem and end up not happy. Plus with the aftermarket remote start, alarm, my cloned transponder, and 2 non transponder keys i have $370.00 dollars invested and can use my cell phone to start, lock/unlock, and track my car from basically anywhere in the world. That sounds more fun to me than spending $1,000.00 + on two keys to unlock and drive my car.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 14806781

The problem you could run into is with the "rolling codes". Each key is programmed to a set code, and each time the key is used; the code rolls to the next code , independantly of each other(car and key) using a math equation. IF the cloned key is then used it will still be on the previous code on the key, while the car will be on the "next code" which will be out of sync.Cycling the key may get it back in sync IF it has not gone to far out of sync. But if a non=cloned key is used , they will stay in sync on their separate set of "rolling codes" The best thing you could do is use one transponder pill PERMANENTLY installed in the car near the signal receiver and not use the "cloned pill" at all. Then use your other type of security system/ start function.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14807011

I don't think when it comes to transponder keys, there is such thing as rolling codes. Maybe the remote for the keyless (like a garage door opener) would utilize rolling codes, but that is a transmitter, not transponder.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 14807485

I don't know for positive, but here is an interesting article on car theft devices, that mentions rolling transponders, and also VW Audi and Porsche systems. Also says Porsche uses a Megamos Crypto Transponder..lol , but you can read anything on the internet !! lol...Try you clone key back and forth for a little while and let us know if you have problems https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...a7IDtko8l8L7uQ Edit looking in the transponder guide, it shows the 98-99 911 uses the Megamos "fixed code" transponder and the 2000+ uses the Megamos Crypto (cryptography) transponder. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...l298_4mBbCwHzB

POST 19Original post

It could explain why they cycle the ignition several times when cloning the key, get it done at the dealership and move on but again your car Also FWIW you can get a brand new key for $150 for 5150 motorsport, $15 for a genuine blade and if you're friendly with your dealer they will program the head for free. They find a local car locksmith that can cut HU66 keys and you've spend $165 + what ever the key cut costs for a brand new genuine key.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If the transceiver in the car is actually burning something new to the transponder key every cycle, then i can see if you go back and fourth with cloned keys something can get out of sync... My 1 cloned key is staying in the car, and i am just using non transponder keys. I have been driving on it for a couple weeks now, with several cycles a day, and no problems yet. I will post if i have a problem for sure, thanks for everyone's input!!!

This is where the receiver for the transceiver has turned out to be just in case anyone else was subscribed to this thread. Also, leaving my one cloned key in the car, and only using my non transponder / pill / chip / RFID / keys works like a champ. I didn't go with push button starter, (all though i could have) because it was just simpler. The Directed Electronics phone app, and aftermarket alarm works awesome. I also have geo fencing, and gps tracking now, plus keys cost me $12.00. All in All, its much better than stock
