And I presume docmirror didn't go out drinking before the test drive, either.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, I offered another thread poster on the CL thread a PPI on the red/tan cab. I went and looked today, and here's what I found. It's not a mechanical inspection, just cosmetics, features, operations, and driving. Cosmetic defects noted; * There is a kind of aero FG body kit on comprised of a nose clip, rocker panels on each side, and a cute little wing. The condition of the whole kit is a bit sketchy on close inspection. Some FG matt can be seen on the wing, indication thin coverage of epoxy, and thin paint as well. Each of the side skirts has a crack where it attaches to the front wheel well. The nose piece has the typical underside scrapes from rash going over dips in the road. Nothing serious, and from 15 feet, it's nice, but when up close, the defects are noticeable. DIY cost to fix all the little stuff would be about $250 and two weekends work. Body shop cost would be about $6-700. * Typical foam insulation coming off the HVAC plenum and blowing out the vents. Annoying but not costly to fix, just pull the plenum and duct under the HVAC and scrape it off and replace. I have it on my car too. * The top and all bows was replaced in 2012 after someone damaged the orig top. The new top is good shape, and operates well. There are some scuffs on the top material near the front where it looks like it scuffs on the hardtop or something. It's not through the material, but there's some shedding going on there. * The left front fender had a long scratch before, and was repainted. The job looks professional and matches the orig paint well. The hood and other fender have a clear bra, and the new painted fender doesn't have the clear bra replaced. Kind of stupid to paint the fender, and not put the clear bra back on to match the rest. * Driver seat is very dirty for 60k miles, and bolster is well worn, but hasn't gone through. All I can think is that the guy driving the car always wore dirty pants. Maybe he was a mechanic, or maybe he just never washed his clothes but the seat is much dirtier than the pax seat, and it bugged me. Also, because it's fairly easy to get out there with a brush and some soap and clean it, then put some leather stuff on to condition it. Hmmmm. * Aftermarket cheap radio, but it works. * Wheels were a little scuffed, and a few small dings, but pretty nice overall. Someone could spend a little time, and little money and make it look great except for the wear on the fabric top. Operational defects noted. * Rear motor mounts are almost done for. Engine hanging low in back, but this is typical. Everything else operated as expected. No issues with top, clutch, brakes, engine, shifter, lights, horn, wipers, seats, radio, etc. Drove tight and strong. It may have an aftermarket exhaust on it, the exhaust note was different, but maybe just because I was in a cab, and not a coupe. Features; C02 236 413 424 437 438 446 490 537 696 750 936 981 983 https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/option-codes/996/ Oil and coolant looked good, but the engine was grimy. Hadn't been cleaned in forever. The belt looked orig, but who knows. Will need a good cleaning, and maybe the rads need cleaning too. It didn't overheat or cause any problems but they all need cleaning. Tires, brakes, and rotors are in good shape, wipers are fine, it's been garaged so it stays pretty clean. Overall impression is the guy drove it, had the shop do some work when needed but it was his toy to play around with, and he didn't really keep up with small stuff until it became bigger stuff. The missing clear bra on the repainted fender is quite telling. Advertised for $18.5, I would offer $17k cash and drive the hell out of it. All the little stuff can be taken care of as you drive. Anyone wanting pics, send me a PM with email and I'll send them off.

Gonzo, Kalash: This what happens when you ask a fine, upstanding Rennlist member to do a Rennfax. And I presume docmirror didn't go out drinking before the test drive, either. Now, you two, get to planning the 996 Vegas Get Together.
