Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The enclousure in the doors is too small for deep base and the woofers fitted by a previous owner don't seem to be designed for that place especially not when overdriven by a relatively high-power subwoofer amp with all the xover adjustment settings and not properly sealed.
Leading evidence: 'Install by a previous owner don't seem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install by a previous owner don't seem' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Early cars might have used a different bracket which I don't have.

I always use a heat gun on the adhesive before I stick it in place.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, new member here, owning a 996.1 C4 and a 986S. I tinker on my cars, have had lots of interesting projects. Currently reverting to stock M490 audio as the inPhase amp and door speakers that had been fitted by a previous owner just sound terrible and I like the M490 sound in the Boxster. I'm an audiofile listening to old school music with natural instruments and prefer clean and laid back sound to forced and distorted bass and harsh treble. I also hate the one navigator button menu of the Pioneer head unit. I have the original radio/CD and ordered a 6x40W amp but not sure how and where to fit it. It comes with the bracket but it doesn't look like the bracket would fit in the place where I guess the original unit lived, circled in red in the picture. 996.1 C4 owners (with the plastic trim as opposed to the carpet in 996.2 C4s) please post a picture with the trim removed to see how the amp is fitted. Thanks in advance.
amp with the bracket
I responded to this thread over the weekend, but if I'm not mistaken, the red highlighted area is for the CD changer. The amp mounts on the side on the C4.
I know and thanks. I replied to your response but it didn't show up. My initial post was duplicated instead. Your first reply has also gone by now.
I think you mean the 996.2s in which the CD changer is fully visible above the carpet in the same place I highlighted in my photo and the amp is on the side. It seems it is the other way around for the 996.1s where the whole area is covered with plastic trim. The CD changer is on the side with only the top visible and the amp must be under the plastic cover in the place which was highlighted in my photo. It is very difficult to find photos online of 996.1s with the plastic cover removed. That's why I asked 996.2 owners here.
See the following two photos to see the differences between the 996.1 C4 and 996.2 C4. Please note that one is LHD and the other is RHD.

Amp connected and fits where I think it should be but I still don't know how it was bolted on. A pic of a 996.1 with the M490 option, meaning speakers in the door but no Bose, with the plastic cover off to show how the amp is mounted would be much appreciated.
I think you're missing the bracket.
Here are some diagrams from the UK (Design 911) so I assume they'll work for your LHD car:

The turbo is AWD, so I looked in that diagram.

There is a photo with a bracket (part #6):
That part number has lots of variations:
But for your option M490, it looks like support p/n 99664523501 might be what you need.
The stock amp on my car is here, you can see the fins on it and in the next picture, you can see how it has the plastic vent bracket above it. The CD player was where the amp is now, put in a new amp. I don't think you'll like the OEM amp, it's nothing to write home about. My car is a LHD. It looks like yours is a RHD.
Paul, thanks but it looks like the later cars like yours are a bit different from the earlier ones. Mine is a '99 and it doesn't have carpet all over. It has a plastic cover instead which covers everything. Where your old amp is, there's the CD changer in the earlier cars. Mine has no CD changer, only the bracket for it, but the amp couldn't fit there and even if it did the cables woudn't be long enough. See my pictures above. The original amp in the early cars is where your new amp is. I'm just not sure how it is bolted on. I have the bracket but it doesn't line up with the holes and it wouldn't physically fit either. It's probably from a later car. Early cars might have used a different bracket which I don't have. Thanks for the help though. Re the sound quality. I'm downgrading from an iPhase amp and speaker setup. All it made was distorted bass and rattle. The enclousure in the doors is too small for deep base and the woofers fitted by a previous owner don't seem to be designed for that place especially not when overdriven by a relatively high-power subwoofer amp with all the xover adjustment settings and not properly sealed. I think the original speakers and enclosure and the amp are designed to work together and sound good in my Boxster.
Here is the amp with the bracket on. It doesn't fit at all.
The amp with bracket
I'm pretty certain the brackets you show would fit my car.....why not just velcro it in place like I did with my amp. It's never moved. I always use a heat gun on the adhesive before I stick it in place.
Where would it bolt to? I think all these drawings are for the later 996 models. Mine is MY99. The amp should be horizontally mounted on a flat surface. See these too pics without and with the amp.
The amp's place highlighted
The same with the amp put there and connected
Any chance it should sit vertical in that pocket to the outside (right in this photo)?
My 2000 is a rear wheel drive car, so the amplifier is in a completely different place, otherwise I'd include some photos.
