This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Use an escrow agency if necessary - that way, you can unwind things if the pink slip turns out to be "an interesting story."

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at buying another Porsche 996, call me BAT optimistic? Anyways here is the issue. The owner has a legible but gone through the washer pink slip. Has all transfer of title docs filled. Is the pink key here or will the other paperwork suffice for a transfer of title?
I know nothing about California, but in my state we can pay for a replacement title. Is there not a similar option for the seller for this pink slip thing?

The DMV will need these items to transfer ownership of a vehicle to your name:
California
Certificate of Title
(Pink Slip) or Application for Duplicate or Paperless Title (
REG 227
) if the title is lost.
...
He can get a replacement but even on "speed" mode it will 3 - 5 days. Normally it takes 8 -10 working days. Ca DMV one of the worst as far as efficiency.
Sounds fishy to me. How do you accidentally run a title through the washing machine?
I would wait the 10 days for him to get a replacement. I have dealt with the DMV with similar title issues, and it is a major pain. You could get stuck with a car with no title.
This is taking the idea of a clean title just a tad too far.
(There can be little question that the OP should require the current owner to obtain an undamaged document from the DMV.)
As long as the
entire
title really IS legible, I wouldn't worry about it. I bought a car with a "Dog ate my homework" title and it wasn't a problem. I did do the transfer at AAA though where they seem less **** than regular DMV.
You guys are killin' me over here...
Thx all apparently according to AAA, the title transfer sheet can take care of this as long as the title is marked lost. BTW I have seen the Pink and it was laundered thoroughly. Pun intended
Go to AAA and do a bill of sale transfer with the seller and you apply for the replacement title on the spot. Its very simple and I buy and sell a lot in California over the years. You don't even need the title. So long as one of you is a AAA member. You are good!
I'd wait the few days for a replacement. Once you pay and have the washed title, it'll open up a whole can of worms if the DMV won't take it as is and if the seller refuses to help now that he has sold the car. In my case, I bought a car out of state and the night I got home, my dog used my title as a chew toy. Luckily I had no ink runs and no tears. Blow dryer saved the day but I imagine if it were in a washing machine, the ink would bleed.
