Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'steal' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'steal' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend paint shop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I removed my rear bumper last week and had it repainted at the dealer-recommended paint shop near here.

Just chalk it up to "the price of admission" - Just 'cause you bought it for pennies on the dollar doesn't mean it's going to be cheap to run/maintain...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I removed my rear bumper last week and had it repainted at the dealer-recommended paint shop near here. Today, I will re-attach it. I'll be holding my breath until attached and I see how the paint matches (Seal Grey) on the car ('03 C4S). This is all part of my easy project.
The not-easy project is curing my anxiety of owning a car with only 1 key. I've purchased a remote key head with the bar code tag for $150 and gotten the key blade cut by keysinthepost. Now, I need programming to the car. My nearest dealer (Porsche of Fresno) has quoted me $170. Should I pay that or is there a workaround?
This is a good alternative if you want to save money. You won't have the remote lock/unlock function but you'll have an otherwise working key.

Thank you for your feedback. So, my $185 spent to buy blade and remote, plus $170 for dealership to program it typical? That totals $355 for a spare remote key. Would the dealer would have charged more than that from the get go?
I have seen people spend twice that on remote keys, so yes get it programed and move on. Just be glad there is nothing else wrong with the lock/unlock system. I fixed mine by putting an aftermarket key fob system in for $60 but i still need to get another key made.
Typical? Yes...Ridiculous? Yes, and no... When you factor in the cost to open and run a Porsche dealership, the numbers actually make sense. I know, it doesn't make it any easier to swallow, but as they say in the movies, "it is what it is"... Just chalk it up to "the price of admission" - Just 'cause you bought it for pennies on the dollar doesn't mean it's going to be cheap to run/maintain... Good luck
That's about what I paid for new Porsche keyfobs. I wouldn't try to go the cheap route on this one. Porsche controls this aspect of our cars tightly. Bite the bullet and have them program your keys. Be thankful, I believe Merc and Bimmers exceed the $400 mark for replacement keyfobs.
If you buy two keys they will usually program both for the same price, I did this several years ago. Of course now one of the keys has been misplaced and the other remote went through the wash. It will still work with a fresh battery, but it drains the battery in 2-3 days.
Basically they are charging you for an hour labor for a job that take maybe ten minutes. These days $170 is probably a steal. One of the local dealers labor rate is now $219/hr., and of course the Porsche Exchange is now $249/hr.!! guess they have to pay for the new building they built somehow.
I was quoted "about $500 out the door" for a new fully functional key from my local Porsche dealer. Fortunately, I am only missing the blade on one of my three keys (two standard and one valet). It fell out of the fob when the previous owner had it, and was lost. I will order a new blade one of these days. I may have to replace the fob too, if it does not securely hold the new blade.
I'm feeling my hand reaching down deep into my pocket. Thanks for the feedback.
Another question : for a spare non-remote key... will a copy of my original blade start my car?
Welcome to Porsche ownership. Its actually kinda funny what costs a lot and what doesn't Some items you would think would be relatively inexpensive are astronomical while others are cheaper than expected. My car came with two remotes, one will start the car and the other just unlocks it. I've been dreading going to the dealer because of the price but I would be okay with $170. Should probably just call and ask them how much.
No it will not start the car. There is a rfi pill that is in the remote. That is what is being programed to get past the security. Some people have pulled the pill from their remaining and put it near the ignition so just a cheap copy will work but that makes the car less secure.
