The halogen projectors in the Outback didn't have retractable shields, but once I installed bi-xenon (ie, with shields that retracted when the high beams were engaged) the beam pattern was much better, and high beams are now a wall of light.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All, I have swapped all exterior bulbs to LED from https://www.bergvillfx.com/ But I have halogen headlights with projectors and would like to upgrade to LED bulbs that fit into the H7 housing. Has anyone done this and which bulbs are the best? Im looking for quality over cost.

POST 2Original post

This thread didnt start off as a headlight convo, but does discuss led headlights... https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-question.html

Thank you. The gentleman says he doesnt trust LED for headlights but new cars come with them stock. My C43 LED headlights are the best Ive ever had on a car

POST 4Original post

That gentleman was me, kind sir. The convo was regarding retrofits, which is what youd be doing here. I havent heard of led replacements that outperform xenon headlights, but Im sure aftermarket led retrofits will eventually be the way to go at some point.

POST 5Original post

I have a set of fairly basic 9006 LED's they are far superior to the halogens without the pattern problems of the HID conversions.. Probably very headlight unit specific.. I only paid 50 for the pair off amazon..

I did a bi-xenon swap into our Outback a few years ago (which had halogen projectors). Here are my thoughts: 1. The xenon ---> halogen projectors is OK, but the real performance was from installing dedicated xenon projectors. The halogen projectors in the Outback didn't have retractable shields, but once I installed bi-xenon (ie, with shields that retracted when the high beams were engaged) the beam pattern was much better, and high beams are now a wall of light. 2. As the outback doesn't have the leveling motors, you have to be very careful of your aiming. The 996 halogens don't have levelers either, so YMMV. 3. Colour temperature matters both for viability and how the system looks. The higher the Kelvin, the LESS viability you may have. There is a sweet spot. You will also have to pic bulbs that can be a close match for the halogens in the high beams and the fog lights.
