Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 C2 Cab with 97k miles. My outside temperature always reads high, sometimes +10 degrees. I checked the sensor and it appears to be connected and intact. Any idea what else could be causing the high reading? Any idea how to fix? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Hi Taus82, It's possible your temperature sensor has bit the dust. On my 01 Boxster S, the tell tale sign was how the air conditioning would react. On hot days, it would blow super cold, then very little, and it would turn into an oven while driving in the sweltering heat. It was not fun. Seeing as the part was cheap, I went to the dealership and picked up the temperature sensor, removed, replaced, and all was well again. I don't know of any other procedure to fix this, other than to replace the outside temp sensor, the one that hangs out front on your bumper. Replacement took less than 2 minutes for me. Good luck!

Thank you! That’s what I was planning to try first. Assuming it’s a straightforward replacement process?

Yes, very. Unclip the temperature sensor that's hanging out front of your front bumper. Be careful to unclip the temp sensor to the pig tail, and remove it carefully - you don't want to damage the pig tail. Installation of the new clip is the reverse. I recommend practicing removing the clip at home to familiarize yourself before replacing it at the dealership should you choose to buy it from them. I believe the new temp sensor is upgraded/revised, and will not clip as deep as the original one, but it should be okay. It's been exactly a year since I replaced mine, and all is well.
