1. Mostly when I turn the key, the electronic oil level check counts down to completion in about 5 seconds. Occasionally, it's a much longer time - could be 30 minutes or more. (I think this mostly happens when the car is started not long after it has been run.) Is this normal? 2. I've been told that the optimum oil level indication is one bar below maximum (proves that the oil is not over-full). Is this correct?

For 2, it depends on how you are using the car. If street driving, you are correct. If tracking, you should be one level above min to avoid blowing out the POS AOS.

Yes. Yes. Best time to do the oil check is stone cold on a flat surface. Second best is completely hot during a fuel stop (refill). The countdown when fully hot is less a minutes. I use the dipstick once a month, and it�s always similar to the dash reading.
