Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Check/Replace fuel filler neck eval value (usually only if you can't fill up gas
Leading evidence: 'Check /' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Check under battery tray that the lines to the fuel tank are not leaking
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Codes are the same or similar for any OBDII system as of 1996, so he can ask this same question in Dodge Dart forum and will get the same answer which will be his solution
better yet replace it on a 10 year old car, I just had a P0456 on my car and replaced at 14 year old fuel cap, no code since
Quick and dirty test - smear the slightly cracked seal on the cap with the thickest grease you have .Refit and clear code.If the code does not return after 3 starts =defective gas cap seal. RND Euro parts have the cap - quick and cheap. Research the "Chobert Rivet" issue first !
Well to help others that might find this thread for a 996 I am right in the middle of troubleshooting this.
1. Replace gas cap
2. Check evap canister behind passenger wheel well
3. Check lines connected to it are not clogged
4. Check under battery tray that the lines to the fuel tank are not leaking
5. Check/Replace fuel filler neck eval value (usually only if you can't fill up gas
6. Check/Replace evap regeneration valve near the throttle body
7. Check/replace fuel valve solenoid attached to evap canister
i am on step 6 so far and gone 1/2 tank without the code so hopefully it holds now
I took two trips to work for a total of 75 miles and no CEL yet. I wouldn't call it success yet. I have the seats out to refinish them so it's off the road for a week. I'll get back when I put more miles on it.
was about to start another P0455 thread but found this one to jump on!
I've had a couple of 0455 CELs in the since clearing the initial P0430 code generated from my old tank of gas. The gas cap looks okay, perhaps some minor cracking, but haven't tried putting some grease on it yet. I've cleared the code twice in the last 3 weeks, seems to take about 100 miles of driving for it to pop back on, always after when driving nicely and not at startup.
My question is regarding driving the car while tracking down the problem - is it okay? Besides the occasional rough start, the car is overall driving well, especially at highway speeds. I plan on driving a couple hundred highway miles this weekend. Is there any problem with driving the car while occasionallly throwing this code?
Also, is there an engine function one can monitor with an ODB reader to keep an eye on this leak? (or whatever throws the code?)
