If it were mine I would remove the bolt, clean the bolt and hole, coat the bolt shaft with "Drei Bond Type 1209" and put it back.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi - new 996 owner and have my first oil leak. 2004 996 C4S - took it to a track day for first time didn't push the car hard, and then saw a small amount of oil build up on the part attached. The pic is taken looking up from the back right of the car kind of by the wheel well. Anyone know what this part is and where the oil could be leaking from? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

That is the bottom of a cam cover. Cold be the cover itself if it was removed and not properly sealed when it was put back on. It could also be coming from a spark plug oil tube above it. Hard to tell from the photo. Is there any oil above the edge? Clean it up with some degreaser and keep an eye on it. It's the passenger side toward the front of the car. Has the engine been out of the car and the cam covers off?

POST 3Original post

Dharn55 he says 2004, probably not sparkplug tube. Small chance that it could also be oil pressure sender. There is some oil on the surface behind and above the drops. If it were mine I would remove the bolt, clean the bolt and hole, coat the bolt shaft with "Drei Bond Type 1209" and put it back. You might get lucky, otherwise you will have to remove & reseal the valve cover. PIA for that little drip. https://www.carpartsdiscount.com/sea...ml?3593=479912

POST 4Original post

Looks like it's Bank 2, above cyl-6 so it cannot be Cam Solenoid seal cover in that area. Yea, no spark-plug tube for 2004 so could be indeed the oil pressure sender since it's right above there. Like Doug said, remove that heat-shield and clean that area well then check again after a drive. Good-luck... Cheers,

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Will get under there this week and let you know how it goes after a few spins.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ended up being the oil pressure sender unit spewing some oil from above which trickled down to the cam cover. $80 oil pressure sender part from local Porsche dealer and about 1 hour of work based on the thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ement-diy.html Thanks all!
