A MY99 with 87k miles just sold of $23,996.(with a replaced factory motor in '96) The last couple of BAT auctions for '99 996s tells me there is hope for a decent selling price for well kept first year Porsches.I may test the water...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since I have owned my '99 6 speed coupe since 9/06 , I'll be watching the bids and comments to gauge the current market value for my Porsche. I've noticed a few Rennlisters who frequent BAT, which in many cases is helpful for the seller because most of us are 996 enthusiasts and really enjoy our 911s. Anyway, let's see what the final price will be. Any estimates?

POST 4Original post

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/199...911-carrera-7/ $19,911

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like TonyTwoBags answer best. We shall see what happens in a few days. Thanks for the link jrdavid68, your price is also a strong sell price.

POST 8Original post

5 years in a lease fleet, I'm assuming, then sold off @ 25K miles. What a greuling existence for a 911. Thankfully, 996's are more and more in the hands of people who properly appreciate them. I did not expect the 996 to be a long-term keeper, but I can't imagine not having it. There are a number of cars in my budget that would be as exciting to drive, and faster with more horsepower, but my weird little 996 with the wrong wing and a Turbo Mike plenum sneaked in there where even the most **** and rule-abiding California emissions testing tech can't find it has somehow found a permanent spot in my 2-car garage next to Mom's 'Vette. Yes, that is a run-on sentence. Regrettably, I don't have the time to properly punctuate that mess. It's abominable.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Old news. Sold for $19,905. jrdaviid68 was closest with his sell price.

POST 10Original post

Somebody got a bargain. I hope you are ok with the price.

POST 11Original post

Fair price for both buyer and seller. Does seller pay a commission on BAT or just the buyer? I would have paid $19Kish all day long for that car...

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought it was a fair price for both parties. I may consider selling mine at some point in the near future. There is another MY99 on BAT, so I'll be watching that one as well. I bought mine in 2006 and have enjoyed my Porsche ownership for almost 11 years with the 996. I had a '79 SC for 4 years in the 90s, and a '68 912 for less than 2 years back in the 70s. BAT appears to be a current pricing barometer and I'm okay in the $19-$20k range.

Agreed. I'll have to find out who pays the BAT commission, good question.

POST 14Original post

Seller pays a modest flat fee (<$100)..while buyer pays 5% commission....up to $5K (max).

POST 15Original post

Current seller fee on BaT is $99 (it is normally $250). Buyer premium is 5%. I sold a car last fall on BaT when the seller fee was $250. You pay the seller fee before the auction, regardless if the car sells or not. The buyer then pays the purchase (bid) price directly to the seller. BaT forces buyers to register a credit card with them before they are allowed to bid. As soon as you bid, BaT places a hold on your credit card for the 5% fee. That hold will be released if you don't win the auction. If you do win the auction, then BaT completes the 5% charge on your credit card. All of the other holds on the other bidders' credit cards are then released. So, BaT gets paid $99 by the seller upfront before the auction (previously $250) and then 5% via a charge on the high bidder's credit card as soon as the auction ends. All other funds pass directly between buyer and seller with no involvement by BaT - they don't act as an escrow agent or anything like that. Pretty good business model for BaT and it provides a good service to the enthusiast community. For the seller, you tend to get top dollar and legit buyers. For buyers, you get a car that has been subjected to being picked apart and run through a gauntlet of knowledgeable enthusiasts. I was happy with my sale last fall. As a matter of fact, I will be submitting another car to auction next week (a two-owner 2000 Jaguar XJR).

POST 16Original post

As a soon-to-be buyer of a first Porsche (at age 69), I'm going through the self-education process and was not quite ready to pull the trigger on this one. However, I'm a BAT addict and this auction was a very good primer on 996's. Appreciate the comments.

I'm also a BaT addict (ha!)..and was on the selling end when I bought my 996 Targa in March 2016. I enjoyed the process....especially BaT community insights. Seller was great...and my s' eatin' grin hasn't left my face in nearly 18 months!
