Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They told me they had installed 100s of IMSB over the years.
Leading evidence: 'Install 100s of imsb over the years' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean filters, not a single indication of any misdoing' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Under further investigation it looks like the IMSB didn't have a manufacturing fault, but was installed poorly and damaged it causing it too leak.

This is currently getting changed now, I don't know what other fun I have installed yet, hoping for the best in terms of no other damage.

I selected a well reviewed indy, as my usual indy wouldn't change the IMSB.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My personal lesson on this, is regardless how many positive reviews an indy has, they can still damage parts on install and worse still not tell you or know they have.
Ok, I know I ve learnt this the hard way. And it was against a lot of the advise on this forum. the story in short.
I moved to NZ from UK. prior to leaving London I did all the preventative maintenance I could on the car. assuming it would be cheaper. Clutch, flywheel, gearbox, RMS, IMS (LN pro single, more on this in a min) pressure gauge, shock absorbers, gearbox mount, viscous coupling, drop links etc etc. I selected a well reviewed indy, as my usual indy wouldn't change the IMSB. I decided the ims single row pro would best suit my needs and was advised by the indy this would likely meet my needs. They told me they had installed 100s of IMSB over the years. Gave confidence and they seemed competitively priced and were in a good location.
Fast forward the story, 6 months later I am in New Zealand, cars AOS goes. Was advised it was fine when other work was done and to leave it. 1 st mistake. Took it too one of the dealerships which actually still services a number of the older models including 356s etc. Inform me while doing the AOS it looks like the RMS is leaking, and they would drop the gear box for free to see while they are there. I agree. they then inform me both the ims and rms are leaking.
Under further investigation it looks like the IMSB didn't have a manufacturing fault, but was installed poorly and damaged it causing it too leak. This is currently getting changed now, I don't know what other fun I have installed yet, hoping for the best in terms of no other damage. Although I have now bought two IMS single pro. and could of purchased the solution. I still think the ims single pro fits my needs. the point I am trying to make is the product was fine, the install wasn't.
Some of you are in the camp if it not broken don't fix it. In this case it would of been the right call at least in the short term.
My personal lesson on this, is regardless how many positive reviews an indy has, they can still damage parts on install and worse still not tell you or know they have. I am hoping a dealership wont make the same mistake. In the mean time I ponder if its worth my time and effort to try an articulate an argument with the indy on this. Given they are on the other side of the world to both me and the car, and cant easily remedy their mistake other than pay for the rework.
Fingers crossed this hasn't caused any deeper issues.
I would definatley notify them, maybe pay an attorney to draft a letter asking for a refund of their work done on the RMS/IMSB! What do you have to lose? Don't forget to ad to their reviews...
Hi mate, welcome back to NZ first of all.
Re your IMSB, have everyone agreed that the 'damaged' install isn't spreading any debris all over your engine? Hopefully they've done all the good stuff such as cutting open the oil filter, or even dropping the oil pan as well as eyeballing the ball bearings in case they are badly pitted?
Is the solution the one with 5 year 'lifespan' or is this the 7 year one? I always get myself confused on this.
I had my single row installed @ 27k by a 'reputable' indy and the engine has performed flawlessly for 8,000 miles
no metallic on the drain plug, perfectly clean filters, not a single indication of any misdoing
The shop stated that they had done 'hundreds' of the retrofits and I spoke with the tech who did mine
and was reassured that the car was right
I wonder how many 'non approved ' indys don't get these
quite
right and while the engine doesn't suffer a MOF, but other critical parts wear out prematurely ?
Thanks for all the responses,
I am still awaiting to get the car back with the damaged IMSB and hopefully some pictures. Will PM them to you Jake when I get them.
Intend to make contact with the indy if for nothing else they can learn from their mistakes.
In terms of how it was botched, I haven't got the pictures/ or the IMSB back yet but the dealer ship said it had some marks/indents on it like "it had been hit with a metal object into place". So my guess is they didn't have the tool to install. or used it incorrectly. Although I am only guessing.
Will update more once I get the car back, with the mechanics notes.
Unfortunately, there are many less than competent mechanics out there. Even worse, you have those who know it all or don't care to learn. We see this with shops installing Single Row Pro IMS Retrofits without the required tools because they either don't want to invest in the proper tools or are stubborn and believe they can figure some way out to install it themselves. Won't be the first time or the last time I see this happen. I'd be concerned there is a piece of the wire lock in the sump - I would drop the pan and make sure there isn't something in there that can take your engine out.
