I knew from his ad that it had the K24 turbos but I thought they were installed aftermarket.

I realize that this car is a color change from silver to blue (after getting keyed).

I am very psyched about it - the wife and I fly to New York on Saturday to meet the seller and test drive the car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After being without a 996 since March when I sold my '99 C4 aero coupe, I put down a deposit on its replacement yesterday. I am very psyched about it - the wife and I fly to New York on Saturday to meet the seller and test drive the car. Assuming all looks as advertised, I will wire transfer the balance due on Monday morning, pick up the car and head back west to Kansas City on a nice road trip. In the meantime, I will be treating said wife to a nice weekend in Manhattan.
I am absolutely blown away by the fact that the exact car I wanted (actually better than I wanted) came available at a price I was comfortable paying. I have noticed over the last 3 weeks, several nice 996TT's have come on the market at very reasonable prices. I actually was trying to buy a different car but couldn't get the seller to return my calls, texts and e-mails when this car appeared Tuesday morning. Long story short: 2002 996TT, guards red over black, 6 speed, 47k miles, sport seats (with the all-important deviated stitching), OZ aftermarket 18" wheels, new tires, new clutch 2,000 miles ago, great service history, some nice power upgrades, upgraded stereo system, aluma-look gauges. The car is still listed on ebay at an asking price of $38,000 (selling price was south of that) if you want more deets.
Here are a few pics from ebay ad:
I'll post a few updates along the way home. Thanks to everyone in the "Craigslist Finds" thread for keeping an eye out for candidates over the past few months. As I said back in March when I sold the '99, I plan to keep my smartass comments and boobie pics and shirtless Kalashnikov photos right here in the 996 NA forum.
Really digging the color (I am partial), wheels major +, as is the roll bar, just needs a good detailing and some suspension work maybe some spacers in the rear.
Where are you in WVA? If his path could take him close to you, then you probably aren't that far from me (next to IAD). 996 smart *** meet up? I need a hair cut anyway
Nice looking car KC and congrats. For the love of god though, take a new stick to swap in there before you drive off
Harrisburg huh? WTF you got WVA plates for then? I'll have to remember that when we go to her mom's for Columbus Day, maybe a quick meet and great on the way through Harrisburg.
No way I try to fight rush hour traffic on Route 9 for your sorry *** tomorrow.
Guess not, guess I was too distracted by that thing you call a race car.
Asked my wife if she wanted to go watch Miatas race tomorrow: "Who the f... would "race" that?"
I love that woman
Concur with the gearshift comments. I seem to have a habit of buying 996s with fugly shift *****. Here's what the '99 looked like when I bought it:
I quickly changed it to this:
I predict a similar phenomenon with this car.
DTMiller - Absolutely! Let me know where you want to meet and I'll give you an ETA. I hope to head out of Manhattan about 9:30 am Monday.
Congrats, when is the wrap going on?
Seems like you got a car with a lot of goodies on it. Just don't do the 2->3 shift aggressively or else you might crack that nice screen.
Make sure you look that track car over very closely! Over revs super important on cars that have been tracked. Also check for 2nd gear pop out on decel.
Im pretty sure its had a lot of over revs. So if you want I will trade you my car and take the hit myself. Speed yellow was your first choice to begin with anyways.....
Wow.. great car at a great price! (I agree with the stick comments.... was wondering what that was even before I scrolled down and saw the comments).
CONGRATS!
Congrats, now you can join me in the turbo forum and help me breathe some humor into it.
Awesome car, enjoy the road trip. You will not miss you're previous p-car.
As I posted in the GWIT996F, the car looked great yesterday. Well, the seller sent me a pic of the sticker late last night. I knew from his ad that it had the K24 turbos but I thought they were installed aftermarket. Turns out that it is a factory X50 car.
Amazing how you can buy a $142k pcar for mid-$30s! Truly exceptional.....and great news for us that can't buy one of these new, but can enjoy them down the road.

Jalopnik just made your car famous, KC, you better hurry up and write that check. According to eBay it's still for sale.......
Figures that the amateur journalists at Jalop would spell "Mezger" wrong. Just a little bit of research wouldn't hurt sometimes, before rushing to push out the next and happening article.
He's just trying to get west. Here to Indy is not a short jaunt. And they spent yesterday exploring NYC so rennlist was not a top priority. He'll be back.
Well eye candy could keep me up all night..HA! I talked with Jeff and he will rolling into Indy fairly late. Really wish our timing was better but eh..sounds like a great car! We promised to contact each other for a meet up if he is back in this area or if I'm in the KC area. What do you guys think of a meet up in the Southern/West to Midwest area sometime. Could be fun! Theme could be barley pops and boobies!
Just realized I didn't post the best pic I have of the car.
Hope the trip west is going well. Car looked amazing.
I was super happy for him. He had that grin we all have on our face when we get that thing we have always wanted.
Hey KC. The new car looks great. BTW, FlatSixes.com gave your car a shoutout and link to eBay as well in their weekly "Favorite Porsches on Ebay" post. Looks like you picked that thing up in the nick of time.

Enjoy the car!
Well, we made it home safely tonight. Thanks to everyone for the comments and tips. A special thanks to DTMiller for a great lunch yesterday. He is my new hero - living the dream.
Also I want to say a public thank you to the seller - Sid. He was great to work with and the car was better than he described. He also never wavered on the deal despite an avalanche of interest in the car that the Jalopnik article created.
We stopped for a late lunch with my son at Mizzou and the car was a hit at the Sigma Chi house.
Back home in Kansas City and tucked away for the night.
No lie. We saw about 15 highway patrol on the whole trip - I think 12 of them were in Ohio.
Thanks Doug. See you in the hood soon.
Well, they were driving moccasins, but I had some black "no show" socks on because my feet were raw from walking all over Manhattan all weekend.
Pete - It was great speaking with you on the phone yesterday. Sorry I screwed up the dinner plans. Would really love to do a group meeting at some point in the near future. I vote DTMiller's driveway.
Oh, so you didn't get arrested and bailed out for speeding.
Congrats on that beast. It's a beauty. Now, if someone offers you to sit in his 996, don't be all stuck up now that you have a turbo like this guy:

So how stable was she on the road? (A tribute to 5CHN3LLy)
Thanks gnat.
BTW, the blue one I was trying to buy when the red one popped up is still on the market:

I realize that this car is a color change from silver to blue (after getting keyed). And that the color is a BMW color (Atlantis Blue 399). But it is gorgeous in the photos and is close to the unicorn color combo of Cobalt Blue over Black that I was looking for. It has a couple of mods that may turn people off but I think look great (997 lower half of front bumper, 997 sport seats). The paint and bumper and other mods were done at a reputable shop in New York.
I think the only reason the car is still available is that the seller is currently in Peru on business and is having his younger brother handle the calls off the ad. I finally got the brother to return my calls and texts and was able to trade emails with the owner. I did a lot of research though and the seller is legit. He is a frequent poster on 6speedonline. The car's build thread is on 6speedonline. He also owns a Panamera. If anyone is interested, please pm me and I will pass to you what I learned and the owner's email address. This car is also in New York. I am certain you can pick this one up for $31,000 and probably $30,000.
Must admit, it's kind of creepy to see a picture of any car in a non-original color with the cemetery as the backdrop. Some could say that she was brought back from the DEAD. Anyone want a zombie for their stable?
That is one beautiful TT. I love the red with the black wheels. I am excited and want one to. I want black wheels.I think it makes it so much more aggressive.Congrats
Move to KC and wait a year or two. He'll unload it locally for an insanely low price without any warning to his RL friends...
Told you I'm still bitter KC. You will never escape
Well, one year ago today, I picked up my car in New York and headed west back home. I got DTM to buy me lunch and blew off dinner with Pete. It's been a helluva year.
The car's been great - one small break (turbo wastegate actuator) in over 6,000 miles.
The camaraderie's been better. Looking forward to year 2.
Let's make that Vegas 996 Get Together happen.
Great thread... I became emotionally involved as I went from page to page. Hoping for a great outcome and not a bust on the trip. Great looking car. Congrats on the 1 year.
Well, you would know that as well as I, right?
Look in your system for an invoice for a coolant expansion tank and new cap for her baby P!g brother. At least I'll be spending time in the garage with her tonight.
