Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I got my 2001 996 C4, the shifting was a little loose. I got the GT3 short throw shifter installed and it's quite nice. Not extremely short throw, perfect really. And it slots in with authority now on each gear. This is what I got, the GT3 version. They were very nice at Sun Coast parts and helped me decide between shifters. This one has metal or aluminum bushings instead of plastic. https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/997SCU.html This is probably all I'll do to the car. It's about perfect. Maybe new tires soon. The tires are 5 years old and low mileage but, well, 5 years old.

Shifting play and wear were making shifts a little stubborn. This kit is 18 % smaller throw and just makes shifting much better. You can get a shorter throw oem kit but that may be too short as you lose too much mechanical advantage. Takes more force to shift.

POST 4Original post

A worn out 996 shifter is the absolute worst. It was the first upgrade I did to mine as well. I like the B&M or OEM SSK for the street and the numeric for the track. The 997 is rock solid as well. It's all just preference.

Thinking about this..... Easy install? Use the same ****?

POST 6Original post

Quick question on the GT3/metal bushing shifter. Does it make a plastic click noise as it comes out of reverse? My stock 997 shifter feels and sounds strange when coming back out of reverse. It has been installed properly and the alignment was checked by the dealership as well.

Mine does not make that noise.

POST 8Original post

It's not a big deal I think it's just the noise it makes. It might be the plastic vs metal bushings
