To date, I had a front wheel bearing replaced, upgraded the stock suspension with a USM030 kit, upgraded my 17" wheels to 18" wheels, replaced 2 sets of tires, replaced front and rear brake pads and rotors, a new coolant tank, FisterD exhaust mod, and deleted my rear seats, and a new MAF.

I have changed the oil and filter at least once a year for just under 4k miles a year.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

September 9th, 2006 I went for a 3 hour ride with my youngest son(who was 25 at the time) to drive and buy my current MY99 coupe from its 2nd owner. It had 35k miles on the odometer, had a PPI done in Conn. and appeared to be a well taken care of by the original owner, with all paper work and window sticker included. I paid $33k 10 years ago, and had not seen or driven another 996. I also let my son drive it part of the way home and I drove his Jetta.

Today, I returned from Conn.in my 911 and just passed 73k miles. I can't tell you how much fun I still have driving my Porsche even after 10 years of reliable ownership. Still have my original bearing and water pump, but plan to do the water pump and thermostat soon. I have changed the oil and filter at least once a year for just under 4k miles a year.
Just thought I'd share a positive ownership story. Having owned a '68 912 and a '79SC, I have to say that my 996 is by far the best Porsche I have owned and driven.
Six years for me. I didn't know enough to get a PPI, so I guess I got lucky. Bought it from the original owner, also in Connecticut, who adored the car and had it meticulously maintained by a Porsche dealer.
I had the bearing upgraded along with the RMS and low-temp thermostat.
I did the pads, rotors, brake fluid, water pump, plugs, and tubes myself over time. I also installed the Fister exhaust as well has some small cosmetic changes.
My wife passed me going in the opposite direction the other day. When she got home she said I look happy when I'm driving the Porsche. I love driving this car!
I even like working on it.
Thanks. It firmed up the ride and improved the handling. It is a harsher ride but not overly so. I did not want to lower the car because I use it in the winter.
Funny you say that about a PPI wyovino. The seller had the PPI done for another interested buyer, but that buyer didn't purchase the Porsche, so I had the PPI for no out of pocket cost.
Great looking car Barn. It's refreshing to see someone take the time to share a positive story. It's 7 years for me and my '02 and I seem to connect more and more with the car over time.
The original owner told me that they used to give him grief because he would take it in for an oil change and it had only been 3000 miles since the last one. He had a lift in his garage and would put the car up for the winter.
Thanks Dennis. I bet your Turbo cab is a hoot to drive in the Colorado mountains.
Nice to hear Alpine003. How many miles on your Porsche with the OB?
What a coincidence dmw996, same day purchase date.
I guess the Rennlist forum would be boring without all the horror stories billyboy. I probably wouldn't have purchased a 996 if I only read this forum due to the over-hyped engine problems. Ten years ago the discussion focussed on the RMS leaking issue.
3 1/2 years of ownership is a great start Triple Black. Nice looking '04 C2 you have.
Thanks kcattorney, love the list of current and past Porsches. How is your turbo treating you? Are you still an outcast on the turbo forum?
I bought mine used from a Rennlister. I believe there are several venders to choose from. Many would suggest the ROW M030 suspension instead. If you can, take a ride in both before you pull the trigger.
Too late. Fracture cut me a deal on his and already shipped it out. I think it will be fine. I just want to tighten everything up a bit and this should do the trick. If not, I'll pull it back off and pass on the same deal to another Rennlister. Cheers!
