Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had seen that thread but it goes on and on about resetting service intervals on 997s.

The only benefit that I can think of (for me) with the Durametric is the ability to test the cooling fans.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The iCarSoft PORII and i960 scanners were brought up. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has direct experience with them.
I do some DIY maintenance on my 996 - Brakes, brake fluid, plugs, water pump, belt and the like. I would never crack open the engine as that's way beyond my comfort/knowledge level.
My question is whether someone like me would benefit from a Durametric or would the iCarSoft readers be more my speed. The only benefit that I can think of (for me) with the Durametric is the ability to test the cooling fans. I'm not sure whether the iCarsSoft units can do that.
I have a 2000 C2 Cab. Incidentally, iCarsSoft just replied to my question and said that the PORII has more functions than the i960, so it's not just the screen size. Also, they said the prices are as follows, which are a lot less than I've seen online:
"The unit price for iCarsoft Porsche/Cayenne Scanner i960 is USD69.95(not including shipping cost).
The unit price for iCarsoft POR II for Porsche is USD99.95(not including shipping cost)."
Maybe that's wholesale, they didn't say.
There is a thread on this topic on 6speedonline where the iCarsoft scanners are compared to the Durametric.

Also, I see the PORII on Amazon for $174.

Thanks. I had seen that thread but it goes on and on about resetting service intervals on 997s. I was hoping to hear from 996 users. I like the idea that it doesn't require a laptop so you can leave it in the car.
I'm still on the fence between this and a durametric, which may or may not be overkill For me
