I have been paying way too much for a long time decided to switch to save $$ then ran into this with the Hartford and was shocked.
Leading evidence: 'Run into this' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace every six months' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There were some fine people who worked for them, but they seemed to have no clear goals and made drastic changes every six months.
Replace we'll probably make the move later this year

I haven't had the time to think about it recently but, assuming nothing changes, we'll probably make the move later this year.

We use State Farm and I was quite pleased to find that my insurance went up only $20/year over my RX-8.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just looking to change providers and at the end of a long phone call the rep for The Hartford ins Co tells me the underwriters won't take clients who own Porsches in Washington state.
Anybody have a good auto insurance provider that they like?
I have been paying way too much for a long time decided to switch to save $$ then ran into this with the Hartford and was shocked.
Hmm. Mine is pretty cheap. Granted I only have liability and uninsured motorist. I cant justify having anything else since it is a toy that was bought with cash.
After some web research, I found an underwriting guide that explains why some Porsche drivers are uninsurable:
914: We refuse to insure 914 drivers because we believe they are likely to be involved in insurance fraud (i.e. paying a friend to torch the car) and/or testing positive for hepatitis (due to IV drugs purchased with the proceeds from torching the car.)
928: We refuse to insure 928 drivers because (a) they are possibly blind (explaining the car purchase), or (b) may engage in illegal prostitution rings for a variety of reasons that may or may not include purchasing a Faberg egg* from Lana's "boyfriend" Guido. There tends to be a high risk of water damage with the 928.
996: We refuse to insure 996 drivers because they are likely impoverished and probably living in the vehicle. Since we do not offer residential insurance as an automotive policy, no 996's can be underwritten.
986: We refuse to underwrite policies for 986 drivers due to lifestyle choices inconsistent with a long life. Specifically, there is also a known mortality factor with 986 drivers involving long, silk scarves becoming entwined in a rear wheel resulting in sudden, unexpected decapitation.
993: We refuse to underwrite 993 owners because it is difficult or impossible to detect a pulse; this leads us to believe that most 993 owners are either dead or very nearly dead and thus not a good underwriting risk.
* It was a Steuben glass egg, but nobody knows what a Steuben glass egg is.
i've had Geico and Liberty Mutual, both were great. My insurance full coverage is $600 a year. $300k liability, full-tort (a PA thing), collision, comprehensive, $250 deductibles, rental, roadside.
AAA cut my rates in half for home and auto. And I can do everything via web and email. I've never even met them but they've been great to work with. I'm paying $650 a year on my '99 for full coverage.
Ive had nationwide since 1990, I have added many good expensive cars on my policy since then. I tried shopping around for better rates but found nobody else would write new policies on good cars.
Actuarial statistics is a pretty interesting field, although it sounds dry. There's so many things that go into the linear regression to determine rates(or decline coverage) that the matrix gets huge. What it comes down to is that insurance has little to do with the liability, when we're talking about retail coverage like cars, homes, etc. It's a function of rates or return on investment product on the other end of the market. What can they turn around and sell their portfolio for? What is the risk based P&L on the aggregate pool of the insured? Etc.
Most of the retail insurers are themselves insured commercially. It's a weird business. All I can say, is that at this time, for this insurer, they decided they don't need the grief involved in this car, with this group of drivers. Maybe in a month or two, that'll change and they might get more hungry, or maybe not. It's all in the linear regression, and what their R^2 numbers say about predictive future value vs risk.

Heh. 4 seats, not doors. Multitasking allows you to do more things - poorly - concurrently.
Props for digging up the 4-door 996 prototype pics - I haven't seen those for a year or two.
The only thing Granny is mainlining these days is embalming fluid.
What - did - you - just - do?
Now I gotta go here.

I almost blew chunks. I almost sprayed green slime. I almost wretched up a lung. Warn a guy next time.
Good record - the phone rep was very clear that they would not accept me as a client due to the fact that I drive a Porsche
thanks for for all the feed back on insurance companies
Independent Insurance Agency owner here.
I dissolved our contract and rolled my book with Hartford years ago. There were some fine people who worked for them, but they seemed to have no clear goals and made drastic changes every six months. It does not surprise me one bit.
Insurance is regulated at the state level. There is a good chance Hartford is trying to get the the insurance commission of your state to agree to certain exclusions or caps, making Porsche owners a pawn in the negotiation.
Most of my carriers have restriction's on certain vehicle types or high value vehicles. One example being a 200K Bentley requires a phone call to the underwriter for them to OK.... Usually the underwriter cannot OK this alone, it requires a phone call to the insurance companies reinsurer. The other typical example, the one I see most often from a carrier that only insures "preferred standard" (No accidents, high credit score, multi lines) is a new jeep wrangler for the youthful driver. I have seen this particular company squash more than one 16 year old's dreams of getting the cool car for his/her daily driver. It makes sense, one young driver in a hot car, especially with high limits can trash a loss ratio for that year.
Just call around, there should be two or three quality carriers that will be close in rate that you can choose from.
That's not a fake, amigo - the 4-door, front-engine 986-styled sedan could have been the Panamera's great-uncle but it got s*itcanned.
"The Porsche 989 was a 4-door performance-oriented touring sedan developed by Porsche between 1988 and 1991. This vehicle was never produced, after development was halted in late 1991 and cancelled in January 1992.
...front-engine, rear-drive platform with a wheelbase of 2,826 mm (111.3 in) and power coming from a new 80-degree, water cooled V8 engine with a power output of around 300 PS (220 kW; 300 hp)."
Styling cues for rear glass/door merging into the C-pillar obviously influenced by the Ford Taurus...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
State Farm didn't blink an eye when I went to them to cover the 996. Actually paying less than for what I had insured before. I was shocked. Multiple discounts and bundled with our homeowners policy, full coverage. Can't argue with ~$140/month for two cars, daily drivers.
Same experience... Been with State Farm for years and they charged me less to insure the Porsche 996 than my 2012 Volvo. I insure everything with them and they've honestly been great with claims. (knock on wood)
Call Amica.
I've got them for my house and I'm on the verge of moving over to them with our cars, too. When it comes to homeowners, they've been awesome and they are very reasonably priced. We've had a few claims with them over the years (mostly due to weather) and they've never touched our rates or questioned any estimates. I truly can't ask for more. In fact, I priced out auto insurance with them and they beat our coverage with USAA!!! I had a bad experience with USAA last year (which was a massive shock to us) and, ultimately, had to call in the State of CT to deal with them. They basically told the State that they effed up. I haven't had the time to think about it recently but, assuming nothing changes, we'll probably make the move later this year.

Yeah, I got a buddy that makes really good money as an actuary for an insurance company, but my god it sounds boring as hell.
Still looks better than a Panamera.
