I use the original 18" turbo twists for summer and a second set of same that I bought from Rennlist classified 3 years ago.

They told me their 15" wheels wouldn't fit my Eagle Talon (they had the best 15" wheels that a lot of guys used for rally tires).

Curious what you use for wheels on both sets of tires?

Suggestion
I would recommend looking for a local PCA event and see if someone would let you try a 17" wheel from their car (Boxster, for example) and see if it will clear the brakes.

Suggestion
I have to go with a set of 17s and have found a set of rear wheels at Tire Rack that will work and a set of 17" Cup 2s from a set I bought a couple of years ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Now that summer is starting to come to a close, I need to get a set of winter wheels / tires. I plan on driving my car throughout the winter.
I am looking at
PIRELLI - WINTER SOTTOZERO 3 tires from tire rack in these sizes:
225/40R18 Front
265/35R18 Rear
Problem is I don't have wheels to fit them. So, I am looking for a set of used wheels for a C4S, which I believe need to be 8.5X18 and 10X18.
Anyone have a spare set that they would be willing to sell?
Finding those wheels for a C4 will difficult. You’ll probably be able to find some narrow body wheels and run spacers in the rear. Check the classifieds here, Craigslist, and PCA.
That being said, anyone with a spare set of wheels looking to sell on the cheap? I'm not a 'what color is your seat stichting' kind of guy so basic wheels would work great for me.
I found a set of factory wheels off a 2002 C4. 10X18 and 8X18.
Can anyone confirm fitment on a C4S? I've heard that all I need are 17mm rear spacers (which is what is currently on my car anyway).
Thanks in advance.
Larger how? Diameter? Or is this a question of offset?
Have 17" wheels been confirmed to not fit? My methodology is to get the smallest diameter wheel that will clear the brakes and then work out offset.
At the top of this page - there is a Tool. From the drop down there is "tire rim calculator". It may be helpful if you have enough information for all the wheels/ tires in question.
Unfortunately I do not have the offset of the available wheels. I was just told that they were factory on a 02 C4.
As Porsche specs 18 X 8 and 18 X 10 for the rear of my car, my assumption is that they will work on the C4S. I am just thinking I will need spacers to bring them out.
I have to say, this whole wheel / tire thing seems to be like black magic. I never could get a straight answer, even when I was looking a while ago for the proper lug nuts.
I'm not sure if it's me being stupid or just inexperienced.
Sigh....
PS - and YES, I would love to get 17s and be more forgiving with NJ potholes ... but I have NO IDEA if 17s would fit on my C4S.
17s will not clear the brake calipers.

The offsets are stamped on the inside of porsche stock wheels. Have the seller either send you that or the part numbers.
Right. It would be in your best interest to see if 17s will fit. Maybe someone local to you can help. What about your local PCA chapter? There are a lot of variations with regard to rim width, diameter and offset. Two of the most important parameters remain consistent across nearly all Porsches - namely pilot bore diameter and PCD. Finding the right combination of the other three attributes is not black magic, it's simple dimensioning.
I would recommend looking for a local PCA event and see if someone would let you try a 17" wheel from their car (Boxster, for example) and see if it will clear the brakes. As long as it doesn't contact the caliper radially, offset is easier to deal with (whether with spacers or a different wheel with different offset). Does your car come with a spare? If so, what size is it?
In my case, I wanted to try and fit 16" wheels on my 01 C4. My set of D90s would work great in the rear, but will not fit in front. I have to go with a set of 17s and have found a set of rear wheels at Tire Rack that will work and a set of 17" Cup 2s from a set I bought a couple of years ago. Will be using the Pirelli tires that you are going with, but smaller.
Maybe the attached file will help.
Maybe. I'm not from Missouri, but I do believe in their, "show me", motto.
To offer an example: I've dealt with Tire Rack for many years and they have their information primarily from the computer screen in front of them. Does not always match with the physical world. They told me their 15" wheels wouldn't fit my Eagle Talon (they had the best 15" wheels that a lot of guys used for rally tires). I went around with the guy.and told him that I even had a set of 14" wheels on one of my cars, so 15s ought to work. Had to order them under the guise they were for a base model Galant.
My recommendation - prove it won't work first.
An alternate option for
winter tires
is 235/40-18 and 275/35-18 on 8" and 11" wide standard C4S rims. The 235 front tires clear fine on my 2003 C4S. The diameters are a good match and the 275 rears work on 11" rims.
Unfortunately I do not have standard wheels. 19X9 and 19X11.5 in the back. No snow tire is going to fit those puppies. Given that I have to purchase new (used) wheels anyway, I figure factory spec might be best.
I'm thinking of getting CONTINENTAL - EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 all season tires and putting them on the 18s once I get them.
They are rated good in the snow and I won't have to be keeping my eye so close to the thermometer, waiting for it to go below 40 degrees.
You're doing the right thing. A second set of tires, for cold weather driving, is a serious step in increased safety.
Maybe someone will check-in before tomorrow, with an answer. If not, I'll check the specs and see what will place the wheel center as intended.
I have an '03 4S and use Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires and would highly recommend. Never an issue with foul weather here( I'm in South Jersey) using those tires. Like you I have a summer set as well. Can't help the offset issues, just my 2 cents about tires....
I have Continental DWS06s on a C2 with factory narrow body (65 offset) wheels but then still have 5mm front and 10mm rear spacers. For the record, both front and rear tires had to be sized up in profile to even be an option but I'm thrilled with the setup. I'm on a gt3 suspension and yes the rear fenders are rolled but I'm not sure they had to be. Also, now the speedo is only 2mph fast...not 4.
I use the original 18" turbo twists for summer and a second set of same that I bought from Rennlist classified 3 years ago. The winter wheels were not from a 4S and required spacers front and back( don't ask me what size).
