Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The PO replaced all four caps right before I bought the car and they had only been in use for about 500 miles.

I'm on my way home from Monterey car week so I won't be able to check until later but I'm pretty sure I have one.

I know it doesnt look clean now as its my daily driver.

It's probably overkill, but I posted a solution to fill the holes and keep the crests from falling off back in 2005 with my first 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Seems like my crest detached, anyone have a good used spare center cap they are willing to ship to 34997?
I can PayPal. Much appreciated
1999 996 Carrera Cab
Thanks for the advise. Surprisingly the others are like new and I checked them last month when I took all the wheels off for a deep clean. I know it doesnt look clean now as its my daily driver. Plus I really dont want to drop $200+ for a set if I really only need 1.
Surely someone has just one lying around they could sell me.
I found the cap and immediately remembered why it is a spare. The PO replaced all four caps right before I bought the car and they had only been in use for about 500 miles. I don't remember why, but I tried to remove one and it was on so tight I caused two tiny cracks next to the holes. I remember being sooo pissed that I f'd up one of the first things that I touched on my new car.
The cracks aren't noticeable unless you get up close and personal and it's otherwise a basically new cap. Anyhoo, you can have it for the princely sum of $5.00 which should cover some stamps and a padded envelope.
It's probably overkill, but I posted a solution to fill the holes and keep the crests from falling off back in 2005 with my first 996. The modded wheel centers look slightly better without the holes, the crests won't fall off, and they can't be stolen. The downside is you have to remove the wheels to take the centers off (and I guess if somebody tried to steal them, they might mess up the wheels more than they otherwise would have). Nonetheless, here is the old thread from 2005 (discussion of the mod starts on post #30) ->
