For things like the throttle body, I use a latex glove.

I'd be surprised if they had a specific set that they use, more likely they have a vast assortment and just use what they need on an ad hoc basis, but you never know unless you ask.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Every guide I've read for pulling the engine contains multiple instances of phrases like "cap the ____" or "Plug the ____". Where does one acquire all of those assorted caps and plugs? Links, part numbers, or the correct google search phrases would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Lint free shop rags work for the home mechanic.
I have a set of caps that I kept from a used m96 engine that I bought from a salvage yard. It has all of the various assorted sizes needed to plug all of the openings. Maybe you could buy a set of caps from a dismantler like Norspec or QuailyPorscheParts? I'd be surprised if they had a specific set that they use, more likely they have a vast assortment and just use what they need on an ad hoc basis, but you never know unless you ask.

Do not stuff rags in the intake runners,, I know of more than one person
that had to pull their engine a second time... Whatever you use needs to be visible.
Far from amateurs,, its just a bad idea,, its too easy for the rags to get over stuffed in to the engine..

the owner had set the heads on to keep the bores clean overnight.. <face palm>
The best of them make the best mistakes.. LOL
If someone was enterprising enough to buy one of the crazy 1700 pc. sets, and make 20 sets of 5 pcs. of each cap, I'd certainly buy a set for $10 or $15 plus shipping...
Do a search for FME plugs on industrial websites. Foreign matter exclusion is a real thing. When I was a maintenance manager we had hundreds for the plant, and all our suppliers could get them. Grainger and Fastenal will sell to individuals and Im sure they have them. Places like northern tool and harbor freight probably have then too.
