Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion
First time, I swapped out because I was replacing the motor with a used motor, and did not know how old it was.
Leading evidence: 'Replace motor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace motor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
This is yet another example of why I am reluctant to replace my working original AOS and continue to test it several times a year with manometer.

You must cap the coolant lines, either at the AOS or at the origin, or run a by-pass line.

Suggestion
Once you run a new section of hose from the fitting to the nipple, you could trim the existing hoses running to the AOS back a bit and cap those...effectively capping the AOS coolant ports off.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry to hear that Bill. At least you know where it's from I suppose. This is yet another example of why I am reluctant to replace my working original AOS and continue to test it several times a year with manometer.
How can something so essential and of some notoriety not be perfected by the mother company by now? I don't get it! Bill your car is making you earn it's friendship for sure.
The AOS coolant supply line is on the hose that couples to the fitting next to the alternator. The return is on the hose under the coolant tank with the nipple fitting on it. (or maybe the reverse of that but it doesn't matter...both fittings are easily accessible in the engine bay). Get a piece of hose and connect those two together to bypass the AOS. I would use a separate piece of hose.
Connect #12 and #13 hoses

With you being in Hawaii, I don't think you need the coolant circulation thru the AOS at all, I would just connect the two hose together with a double barb fitting. The mid engine Boxster does not even come with coolant flow thru the AOS.
I wouldn't bother. How are you going to get back there and do it? Removing all that stuff including the intake manifold again is just asking for trouble. Once you run a new section of hose from the fitting to the nipple, you could trim the existing hoses running to the AOS back a bit and cap those...effectively capping the AOS coolant ports off.
I can jack it up and barely get my hand up to it from the bottom if needed. But, I'm all for taking the path of least resistance!
Thank you all for you help.
Doesn't matter, you can leave the AOS ports open, no harm will come. You must cap the coolant lines, either at the AOS or at the origin, or run a by-pass line.
First time, I swapped out because I was replacing the motor with a used motor, and did not know how old it was. Second time is because the AOS hates the track. Third time was because the AOS hates the track.
The third time, I got the old one out in 52 minutes. Once you know where the intake bolts are, it is actually easy.
If its any consolation, BMW's have and AOS and its a total piece of crap too..
The BMW one freezes up in the winter as well.
Costa a grand on a E46 to change out the whole deal, lines and unit, and OIL DIPSTICK housing cause its part of it..
So true. I've never actually had one go bad. I just get sad when I don't get to see it at least once a year, so I take it out and put it back in again.
