Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'extra weight' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'extra weight' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Reset with 30' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Carfax blooper, should have gone for ~$30k. We know why it didn't go: "But - but - honey I DID list the 911 for sale. Honest!"
This is not sour grapes, I"m all for an efficient market. no sale at $30k, the owner likes it more than the market I guess.
Not surprised, but certainly goes to show ya... its not what sellers are asking for these days but what buyers are willing to pay. End of the rainbow buyer for this one is $32k me thinks, but if you factor in BAT fees and transport a final bid of $30k would eclipse that number.
they need that 2 minute reset to prevent computer automatically bidding in last millisecond, protects all bidders. doesn't bother me as long as it is disclosed.
i admit i overpaid earlier this year for my 03 c4s with low miles & factory sports exhaust, but after seeing recent sales (and no sales like this one), maybe my purchase wasn't too far off from FMV.
They do it that way to prevent the sniping. Good for the seller and for BAT as it let's everybody put in their bids without the last second loss. Kinda like a live auction where the auctioneer tries get get all the bids out on the table.
They wanted over $30k with no IMS and an accident on the CarFax? I mean WE 996 owners like it, but even then, yellow is a strong color choice and accident damage lasts on it's ledger forever...
Not only the hips, they are nice, the 4S has the turbo suspension setup, the nose, the lower rear bumper cover vents and, of course, the four wheel drive. It just looks mean and handles really nicely.
If that were the case, the lap times would tell the story...and they don't. In pretty much every evenly matched timed course, the 4S beats the 2S.
Whether you prefer the
driving experience
of the 2S over the 4S is certainly worthy of discussion but as for "go", as you put it, the 4S has it.
Easy tigers. Same engine, heavier car. It is basically a cosmetic package. I would love one, for aesthetics. They're really nice to look at. But they are nothing special, if you want the go to accompany the show, buy a turbo.
AWD is not a cosmetic feature last time I checked. Are you saying a c2 handles exactly as well as a c4s, or even better since its lighter?
Ill give you straight line speed advantage, but Ill take curves at speeds that might leave a c2 off the road.
Facts, such as recorded track records, are not subject to opinions.
IMO the engine is not all that matters. Yes, I like the look better (purely opinion) but there is also a difference of upgraded suspension, brakes, tire width, and AWD, which I think is a pretty substantial benefit. It's certainly an opinion of whether
you
think the premium is worth the features but it isn't "basically a cosmetic package".
Oh boy... its cool, you both win.
In all fairness the better brakes, suspension and wider track coupled with awd more than compensates for the added weight, but its marginally better - not heaps. But its definitely a nicer car and why they cost more out of the gate.
Different strokes at the end of the day, I enjoy the c2 for what it is.... they are both great cars.
I preferred the looks of the 4S to the C2. I preferred the one less thing to break of the C2 over the 4S (all wheel drive). After driving both (a couple of each), IMO I just found the 4S felt like a better quality ride and more planted. Please note, the 4S had about 40k more miles on it too (32k vs 70k). Likely the extra weight.
My guess is that the C2 is more fun at an AX (maybe better) and as mentioned, the 4S is slightly better (like milliseconds) on a track. End of the day, comes down to personal preference though I do think those hips really make the car special.
Anyone know the #'s built of 996 2002-2005 C2's vs 4S's?
One extra tidbit. What confirmed my opinion of the 4S as being pretty good was that my very anti water cooled friend took it for a ride and said the car just felt special. I have to imagine that was tough for him to say. He doesn't complement to complement. I was expecting "it's okay I guess".
i cant imagine buying a 996 without seeing it in person and driving it, but others might view such a purchase as pocket change and dont really care. they buy it, fix it, drive it for a year, and sell it for whatever. they had their fun and it only cost a few grand. just my guess.
Seems like a good deal if the turbo met the reserve, unless it was beat. I wouldn't automatically assume someone selling a car after a year is a bad thing but I certainly wouldn't buy it sight unseen without driving it and no PPI. One of my current cars I've had for a year and want to sell, simply just don't want to pay for it anymore to sit around.
A red Turbo with IIRC 103k miles only hit upper $20s on BAT recently, too. Wouldn't be the place I'd sell a watercooled 911 unless it's positively
pristine.
