Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I was about to get a new engine lid shock as mine is totally worn out. The lever was starting to get loose when you pulled up on it unlike the front trunk release. Today the engine lid is stuck closed. If I can't figure this out, looks like I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow....not something I want to pay out the nose for a simple repair. Any suggestions? I even had my son pull and hold the lever up while I tried pulling on the lip of the trunk, nothing. It does not seem like anything is jammed on the latch.

POST 2Original post

Have you looked at the manual, not sure if it's covered. Try the tech forum, it may have been posted.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sure did check the manual. Nothing in there about it if the engine lid lever fails to open it. I did a search also but most of the info is on the front trunk release. Personally, I would feel a bit better if the front trunk would not open instead of the engine hood.

Thanks Barn996, I did make an appointment at Porsche of Colorado Springs for 1300 tmw. I need to get a serpentine belt replaced with the engine hood shock. Noticed at 60K the belt had a small split forming when I removed the OEM air box. The Porsche dealer said they have seen the engine trunk lock problem before. Should be under $200 total to get the trunk open and check it out, replace the serpentine belt and engine hood strut if they have one in stock.

Appreciate that mpd425.....I knew there was a release back there but how do I access it? I read something about a access port under the driver tail light and using a coat hanger? Any picture of where the access to that pull cable is?

POST 8Original post

Never used it on the 996, used it on the Cayenne( it was behind pass side the fender liner ). Not sure where exact location is on 996

POST 9Original post

Been mentioned you remove the left rear light fixture to get to the pull handle or get some plastic spatula in there to snag it.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Saw that also Pac996 but no pictures or DIY I can find on that. If someone thinks I missed a post, send me a link with pics. I do search first before I post. Details would be appreciated.

POST 11Original post

Maybe you engine is under new management and you are under a lock out

POST 13Original post

Yes its a small cable with a loop at the end. Sits under tail light. Pull away from trunk lid. I have seen it with the light out but have not acceced from under the light.

POST 14Original post

Very simple 10 min fix, DIY or have a savy friend do it for you.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got it fixed and a new strut is on now. The latch was a little loose and caused the problem. Belt was replaced today also. I am good to go.
