I can change the standard AOS a couple of times for what it costs to buy, modify (doesn't plug right in w/o modification) and install a Motorsports version AOS.

I just had the 2nd AOS installed after about 9000 miles. Original AOS was replaced when I rebuilt the engine a couple of years ago. Much of the 9000 miles have been on the track. The 9000 mile AOS started to show signs of failure, so I had it replaced. I'm not really complaining (well, maybe a little) just pointing out that track driving is very hard on this delicate part.

Did I mention I really hate that POS plastic time bomb on our cars? Even some modern cars and you can run to Autozone, buy a cheap PCV valve, pop it in and be done for under $10. That thing (the AOS) is the achilles heel of our cars....with no good alternative. I never want to do an AOS replacement w/engine in car again.

Standard Porsche AOS ($140 vs. $800+). I can change the standard AOS a couple of times for what it costs to buy, modify (doesn't plug right in w/o modification) and install a Motorsports version AOS. There are instances of the Motorsports version failing too. Mine shouldn't really have started to fail again so quickly, so I'm willing to take the chance again on the standard one. It's still one of the weak-links in the 996 engine. Dumb design.
