Suggestion

I've read that some just glue a new piece over the old one rather than replacing the whole mechanism.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My latch works but is making some suspect noises when it latches the top shut. Does anyone rebuild them? Can I rebuild it? Not being cheap but, looks like replacements are some $800. TIA

POST 2Original post

There are several latches in the cabriolet system. Please be more specific. Maybe provide some photos and a more detailed description of the problem.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's the latch on the cabriolet top that latches the top to the windshield. Right in the center of the front of the top. Has a big hook that grabs the windshield frame.

POST 4Original post

That is prone to cracking and might be your problem. I've read that some just glue a new piece over the old one rather than replacing the whole mechanism. Do a search.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, mine is more than that. It sounds like some gears are crunching a bit.

POST 6Original post

My top is is fairly quiet except in the last stage. Makes a loud rhunking noise when the latch secures itself. Been like that since I bought the car a coule of years ago. I just assumed it was normal. The car is a 2004 C4S cab.
