After the last run, while waiting for the timing slip to be handed over at the end of the track, the oil ressure light came on.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In case anyone is looking for information on repairing the 3.4L engine. Below is the link to my adventure. I posted it on the Canadian forum because didn't want any useless arguing and it seemed to work. There also is info in there of the intermediate shaft bearing (IMB bearing) that I got from Boca Bearings.

You have a problem with useless arguing!
OK kettle.
Are you still working with the theory that the broken chain tensioner was the root cause? What a bummer for the original owner... ten cents worth of material cost him a 911.
It's not a theory because the pieces that came out of the chain sprocket were tensioner pad material. The missing chunk was the same material. In essence the 200K miles caused the cam chain pads to wear away. Sort of like brake pads. This could have been avoided if these pads were changed at some point. The engine also had a failed AOS that was ignored for a very long time. Overall the owner drove it until it stopped running. He was the original owner to and when the engine finally died, he traded it in for a brand new Boxter. Financially this is the best way to buy a brand new car.....drive it into the ground.
I've updated the orignal thread on the Canadian Forum (see link in post #1). Two days ago when I cnaged the oil, the filter was full of metal. Pulling the engine in the winter and will update the original thread as I go along. Right now its too early for me to know where the metal came from.
About 15K km since the repair. Oil pressure was a bit on the low side after making 3 quarter mile.runs (back to back). After the last run, while waiting for the timing slip to be handed over at the end of the track, the oil ressure light came on. I blipped the throttle a bit to see if anything changes and the cauge followed the RPM. I then let the engine sit for over an hour and after this, the overall PSI was always about half a bar below it used to be. So that was my only clue something changed. Otherwise the engine still runs without any symptoms. This is everything that I know so far. Therr is more info on the Canadian Forum.
I told you you should've gotten the Accusump and x51 oil pan for drag racing too.
Seriously so one can't even road race OR drag race without something going wrong?
Btw what kind of 1/4 mile times did you pull if you don't mind me asking?
At least it happened closer to winter and should be another good project. Good luck!
I'll be subscribing on the other thread.
My best out of 3 runs was a 13.5. Had about a couple tenths more left it it. Keep in mind, my engine has very high miles and an unknown service history. I've only repaired it to get it back on the road, it was not a rebuild.
Lol, that's what they all say.
On a serious note, from my observations most people I've seen seldom match the manufacturers time. Most on the avg come within 1/2 sec and considering you got a high mileage motor, that seems like a great time.
Is your car stock? Curious to see what your 60 ft times were and trap speed.
Been down the track with the 928 at least 50 times so I'm not that new to this. Kept traction control off on the 996 (there is no tallent launching it with it on). The tires were spining more than I'd like to and the 60 foot times showed that (they were all over 2.x). However, my reaction times were good (all 3 in the 0.5xx range). The car has BB headers and muffler bypasses. Other than that, its stock. The muffler bypasses took some of the low end torque away but they sound awesome at redline.
The BB mufflers were going back on.
The engine is out. Pictures and more info here:

I'll be updating that thread as things move along. Feel free to comment there or here.
Finally, after 2.5 years I am restarting this project. Going to update the thread in the other forum soon. Any questions, post them here or on the other forum and I will try to answer them.

That site is pretty dead but I have no choice if I want to post pictures directly in the tread. RL won't allow that unless you become a paying member. Not going to do that again so it's RL's loss but it's a real shame as this free content boosts RL's value yet they don't see it that way. Interestingly enough the guy who make the other site where I have the thread going is the same one that made RL.
Everyone like carnage pictures. Here is a clip of the hybrid double row bearing, that I've sourced myself looks like. It was ready to completely come apart.
