Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A quick search of the P/N shows that it is the same SACHS pressure plate used for the 987 S.
Leading evidence: 'Use 987 s' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'disk is made offshore west of the us' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace pilot bushing also -it is $11.and' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

But likely the disk is made offshore west of the US.

Obviously the main thing is how it stands the test of time.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone given the EPS clutch kit a try?
Currently have my transmission removed and seeing if there are any alternatives to OEM/SACHS. Price seems very reasonable.

Wanted to follow up on this thread. I purchased the Clutch and it arrived!
The clutch is advertised as an upgraded replacement clutch for the 996. The price is very reasonable so i decided to give it a try.
So the webpage states that it uses an upgraded disc, here are the pics in comparison to the old clutch.
The new clutch has much more disc material than the old.
Here are the differences:
EPS Clutch Disc OD: 24 cm
SACH Clutch Disc OD: 24 cm
EPS Clutch Disc Contact Width: 40.0 mm
SACHS Clutch Disc Contact Width: 30.0 mm
24.0 cm
40.0 mm
24.0 cm
30.0 mm
Here is a picture of the new pressure plate. A quick search of the P/N shows that it is the same SACHS pressure plate used for the 987 S. Seems to fit onto the OEM 996 3.4 flywheel perfectly.
It will be a few months before I will have the car together to test the pressure plate. I will follow up with the install and driving results then.
That is a screaming deal for those parts, same setup I bought beginning of this year, I have zero complaints after about 2k miles on it. Get that thing back together and enjoy it!
Please keep us posted as you get some miles on it .
That's such a good price even though I just did mine , I'd think about buying one and putting it away
Any chance you've gotten the car back together? Any initial thoughts?
I'm intrigued by the fact that they're claiming the clutch is upgraded - I'm all for a better part, but given I've found the regular 3.6L Sachs clutch kit for as low as $450, I don't want to get something sub-par just to save $50.
No, not at all. But likely the disk is made offshore west of the US. Would like to hear from those that have installed them to see how the disks hold up after a few thousand miles.
Cheers
My new EPS clutch also arrived today. Finally my car will be on the road soon.
The clutch seams equally as robust if not more than the original clutch.
The clutch material seams to have Raybestos stamped on it.
I have around 50 km on my clutch now.
As far as feel/bite/performance goes it seems fantastic.
Obviously the main thing is how it stands the test of time. I'll keep reporting back as I put more kilometers on the car.
Question to everyone here.
Does EPS make good products? From what I can tell I like how they try to offer better than stock products at reasonable prices but thats only my opinion.
What is it about their non stock clutch that you don't like? It claims to be an "upgrade" to the stock clutch and it shows it has more material. Do you think the EPS engineers made subpar products to try to sell something?
Why would you choose a standard clutch over an upgraded clutch with more material?
Hey, Pete! I got my clutch from EPS as well. They put together a sprung hub disc kit for me even though they don't have one advertised on their website. Pretty good price, quick delivery. No complaints...would buy from them again.
Say hi to guys for me!
Glenn
Hey Glenn!
Good to hear from you. Thanks for your experience with EPS. I may go down that road.
I'll send you a PM to touch base.
I'll say hi to the guys from Team BAR for you,
Pete
No magic here:
EPS is using a standard Sachs clutch kit, but one for an older Audi A4, A6. It has the same mounting as a Porsche clutch, but it has a 10 mm wider face (40 vs. 30 mm wide, same 240 mm OD). For a 987 Cayman 6 speed, the following parts are used:
Disc - Sachs 186528441
Pressure plate - Sachs 3082308041
Kit (incl release bearing) - Sachs 3000387101
At a little over $300 their prices are good. Tough to buy this kit cheaper, even if you can find it.
All else being equal, a clutch with a smaller radius of gyration (radii to face center) will have a smaller holding capacity. Going from a 30 to 40 mm face will reduce the radii slightly (same OD) but having more clutch face to wear is an advantage.
I paid about the same price for my Sachs kit as the quoted price for the EPS kit, but my Sachs did not include a throw-out bearing...
Had I seen this kit, I probably would have bought it. I did install an EPS cylindrical bearing 5k miles ago (holding up fantastic).
Hi
MoeMonney.
Thank you for your questions.
The
EPS Power Friction Clutch Discs and Kits
are equipped with a specialized Raybestos or Ferodo Dynamex friction compound that is far superior to its OEM replacement. Furthermore, our Clutch Discs and Kits have an astounding 30% more usable friction material and contact area. What does all of this mean? A Dramatic increase in clutch life, increase holding power, and a smoother engagement.
Technically speaking, OEM has 30.15mm contact area compared to our EPS Clutch Disc which has 40.17mm contact area.
Our EPS Clutch Kits include three main parts:
1 clutch pressure plate
1 clutch disc
1 clutch release bearing
You can see the applications to our EPS Clutch kits
here.
If you are still not convinced, you can see NickHends post
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...lutch-kit.html
proving how our product is superior in terms of friction material and contact area.
Hope this clears up any questions you may have. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thanks,
EPS Team
