Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im currently disassembling a 2003 3.6 motor. So far I have removed the ancillary items and removed the cam cover on bank 2. Wayne Dempsey has a good step by step article on dismantling a 5 chain engine (and I have some experience with these) but the first thing that I noticed here is that the 3 chain engines are a bit different. Does anybody have a link to a good teardown source for the more recent motor?

POST 2Original post

Disassembly is similar to 3.4. The only major difference is the big variocam+ bolt on the intake cam. You're supposed to loosen that bolt first before removing the cover using a special tool that braces against the cam cover.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the Bentley's. Exactly the info that I needed. I already had the Bentley manual for the Boxster but this one for the 996 has very specific 3 chain info for the 3.6 engine that I will eventually be stuffing into my Boxster!

POST 4Original post

The Alldata service is very good too. Another rennlister turned me onto it when I was looking for difficult to source details on a transmission rebuild. The seem to be factory service manuals, and have incredible detail that isnt in other sources.

Ill google that. Do you have a link?
