Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I have a 3.41999 C2 with abour 100k miles on it. I have a few questions about the chain guides and what to do: 1. I am confident PO never replaced them, is there a service interval for these? 2. I do see some brown tiny plastic pieces in the oil filter. So I assume they are starting to fail. Will a CEL come on before it's catastrophic? Or is there any other way of knowing when it's time? There is no other indication that they are failing. Everything runs good. 3. I do change my oil often since I track the car about 1h a week. At least this would reduce the risk of having small pieces stuck in places? 4. Changing them seems like a big job. Should I plan for a big future engine overhaul in the future, what is good to replace in that case? IMS has been replaced with the LN but that was a while ago. Does it makes sense to do when I do a future clutch replacement? (Years from now) 5. Why is this only a problem on 3.4 C2? Car runs fine and I have done as much preventative as I can so no need to take it apart just yet. Thanks!

With 100,000 miles there are lots of things you can do "while you are in there" Search to learn the many options.

'"- Replace vario-cam wear pads and the 4th and 5th timing chains at 40K miles if your car is an 01 or earlier 996 or an 02 or earlier Boxster" The link is dead but seems like flat6 posted that a while ago on their site. Seems like a 4h job once the engine is out, does that sound reasonable? I have already done IMS, AOS, clutch, rms and waterpump. Oil pump seals seems like something I could do aswell.
