Can be a PITA if you don't know to use a ratchet strap to pull it back into alignment, hence the precaution not to leave it out and put weight on it...

I needed to move the car around, and just put the wheels back on, and now use wheel dollies to move it around.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have read in a couple of posts that you shouldnt rest the car on its wheels with the rear cross braces removed. I was wondering why this is so? I ask because I removed my engine/trans, due to a yet undisclosed engine failure, and had the car on jack stands. I needed to move the car around, and just put the wheels back on, and now use wheel dollies to move it around. Moving it back a couple of feet and over against the wall a few feet to make more room. I didnt even think about the cross braces at the time. So, what damage can be done, by resting the shell on its wheels without the braces installed.

POST 2Original post

Nah, nothing to worry about .Driving the car with the braces off is another story.

POST 3Original post

It doesn't do any real damage, but the rear suspension will spread a little (rubber bushings)and the big transverse brace bolt holes will not align back up. You will have to use a ratchet strap between both rear wheels to pull the suspension closer together to realign the bolt holes for the transverse brace. Can be a PITA if you don't know to use a ratchet strap to pull it back into alignment, hence the precaution not to leave it out and put weight on it...
