Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I decided to have mine checked out and now will get it fixed.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine are and I will posts pics when I get it back from the Indi who diagnosed scored cylinder liners #5 and #6. I have seen the boroscope pics and can confirmed scored. Sooty pipes can be an indicator of internal problems. Just wondering...

POST 2Original post

Horoscope pics? I guess with sooty pipes we could have predicted that.

POST 3Original post

Think he meant horrorscope.😎 seriously, sorry to hear.

Thanks. Not so much horrorscope as I have been suspicious for some time. It is what it is and I'm going to have it fixed.

The Cayenne has a high incidence of this: I wouldn't be shocked if our cars are at that level or higher. There are probably cars that have been running with some level of scoring for years. I have come to accept that sooner or later, all (or practically all) of the original 3.6 engines will develop scoring. If I found out I had scoring, my plan would be to run it until it wasn't making good power anymore. I am sure that someone will come along and tell me how this will result in further engine damage, impure thoughts and my dog to run away.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In addition to the sooty pipes, which came first, followed by an increasing amount of oil consumption and the addition of the light ticking that turned into a fairly disturbing tapping when hot. Finally the CEL for #6 cylinder misfire and subsequent finding of an oil fouled spark plug. I decided to have mine checked out and now will get it fixed. I know there are other folks who have similar issues that keep adding oil and keep driving. Great for them. I hope it works out for them. Each to their own decision. I will post a pic of the issue in my engine on the #6 cylinder. #6 cylinder

Just as a point of reference, here are the "non-sooty" tailpipes from my 2000 Carrera 2.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
