Personally, I've always just pumped the tires up to 50psi, used tire cradles or let the tires sit on a piece of carpet.

Suggestion

I agree with your overall sentiment, but flatspotting the tires should not be an issue if he is running radial tires (versus bias ply).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This guy came up with a clever and inexpensive way to store his 996 for the winter while keeping the tires off the ground. It works even in very tight spaces. Ignore most of the comments, it's not made for working on the car, just storing it. You Tube

POST 2Original post

Great idea. I will be making these to act wheel lifts for my drive on hoist. Quick way to jack car up for wheel related work.

POST 3Original post

What is the point? Why not park with the suspension loaded so that the bushing are not twisted in the suspension components? I would argue that this is one of the many case of "killing with kindness" that I've seen with people storing cars. Clean the car. Fill with fresh gas with maybe a touch of stabilizer. Park inside.

POST 4Original post

I've never understood why people want to store their car for long periods of time with jack stands (or wooden blocks) under the chassis. It's not the ideal method and in some cases can be harmful. If you must lift it off the ground, put your stands under the suspension points - the suspension is designed to hold the weight of the car. Personally, I've always just pumped the tires up to 50psi, used tire cradles or let the tires sit on a piece of carpet.

POST 5Original post

A great idea for something thats easier to put in place than a normal jack stand. But I question how strong that top 2x6 wood plank is once its supporting the weight of the car....

POST 6Original post

totally pointless and potentially harmful to suspension. just leave it alone. sheesh

POST 7Original post

I don't get it. It's not even far enough up in the air to fully get the tires off the ground. So this is still potentially flat-spotting the tires, while also twisting all the suspension bushings. Pointless IMO.

I agree with your overall sentiment, but flatspotting the tires should not be an issue if he is running radial tires (versus bias ply). Any flatspotting in radial tires will be eliminated as soon as the tires come up to temp on the first drive.

All the more reason this is pointless. 1) if you believe radial tires DON'T flat spot, there's no need to jack them up. 2) if you believe radial tires DO flat spot, this is not removing the flat spot.
