Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This is a blown track car that I replaced with another RL'ers engine.

I also tested the 5V and the ground, per the diagram, from the DME to wiring harness and both were good as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, So I'm troubleshooting P0341 and P1397 on a '99 996. This is a blown track car that I replaced with another RL'ers engine. Took it down to my uncle's in Dallas without issue and then he brought it back 3 days later and it popped the codes. I can reset the ECU and and the camshaft deviations look good. As the ECU starts learning they begin getting wildly out of whack (-23,-18) and I'm definitely feeling some hesitation which was not there when I pulled the donor engine from the donor car. I've tried to troubleshoot using the following article but unable to find split in wiring between ECU and rear harness connector. I have also set the engine to TDC and verified that the cams were aligned horizontally. https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...and-older.html Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

.2 ohms resistance between DME connector and engine wiring harness jack.

POST 3Original post

The wiring diagram for a 99 996 with DME 5.2.2 shows the split in the wiring for left and right cam position sensors about midway in the engine harness, not near the DME as per 99 986 article. Hope that helps ya. BTW everything else in the article is good info, except that accessibility to the sensors is obviously different on a 986.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wish I knew how far up the harness the split was. I thought it was a brilliant troubleshooting method. So far I've gone from the harness connector all the way back to halfway up the slot where it lays against the engine and no luck. I still have the extra harness that came out of the blown motor so I might start unraveling it to see. I also tested the 5V and the ground, per the diagram, from the DME to wiring harness and both were good as well.
