Suggestion

Regular MY02's are just silver painted but the 40th's had this odd chrome finish that wasn't mirror chrome and is of course very hard to repair/replicate.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

36 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know I should know the answer to this, but what are these wheels called? Thinking about getting a set when it comes time to buy new tires. Im interested in dropping from 19 to 18 wheels to compare ride quality.

POST 4Original post

I've always referred to them as Carrera 02 (or Carrera Model Year 02 wheels), I think some part of that may be true. Cheers!

POST 5Original post

MY02's is the common term. Technically, I think they are Carrera II???

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Ill be keeping an eye out for a used set.

POST 8Original post

On my 03 C2 build sheet they are option 411, 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel. I have them on my car.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They look great on the blue C2. Love the simplicity. Its gonna be either those or these in bronze. I dig the way they look on a black car.

POST 10Original post

The BBS Carrera II's are light and easy to keep clean. They would look great in Bronze/Gold I bet.

What wheels are those? The image uploaded is blurry on my end which makes it hard to tell. Are they HRE Classic 300's?

POST 12Original post

The original post are, as others have said, "MY 02's" but specifically they look like the shot-peened, semipolished ones from the 40th anniversary edition. Regular MY02's are just silver painted but the 40th's had this odd chrome finish that wasn't mirror chrome and is of course very hard to repair/replicate.

I stumbled across them on Ebay. Flow Form is the brand. Very inexpensive so not sure about the quality. Originally I was thinking about bronze wheels but Im now leaning toward Apex SM-10s in silver.

POST 14Original post

The bronze wheels look like HRE FF01s to me. HRE Flow Form 01.

I don't think they are HREs. Made in China and $1026 for a set..... https://www.ebay.com/itm/18x8-5-18X1...item5d7d309c87

Not HRE's, it looks like it says those are ESM Wheels.

Yes when the 2002 996 was introduced they were called Carrera II wheels, don't know how the other names got adopted.

POST 20Original post

No matter what the name, they are the best looking factory wheel Porsche has made since the original Fuch.

POST 21Original post

Have had them on my car for the past two years. Absolutely love them in black.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That looks sinister Danizio! Love the stance. How's the ride quality?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 15554942

Thanks! Wasn't bad. I recently raised it an inch in the rear and switched to 35 series side walls in the rear. Feels much better now.

POST 24Original post

Those Carrera II wheels are great. Had them on my car for a while, very light weight. Much lighter than the set of 18" 3pc Work wheels I have now.

POST 25Original post

Also had a set of those of my car before getting GT3 MK2 rims. I still miss the look of them but the GT3 rims are the pinicale for me. Also FYI these fit: 225 / 40 / R18 upfront 285 / 30 / R18 on the rear

Calendar shot! Once I get the curb rash smoothed out, I'm going black!

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 15555083

yeah, when I took my rears off to be repaired I was surprised how light they were (with and w/o tires)

POST 30Original post

I don't have these wheels, but I admit the Carrera II BBS wheel are about the best looking and performing wheels you can get for the 996. And that blacked out look is truly awesome Danizio! Great photo!

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 15554012

their website says these wheels are flow formed. thoughts?

POST 33Original post

My favorite wheels. Porsche/BBS got it right when they designed them!

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 15557723

Forum rules prevent me from talking about other manufacturers, so I can't touch on that. I certainly could though, I used to sell ESM wheels working at ModBargains for several years.

POST 35Original post

gotcha, thanks; sorry to put you in an awkward position

POST 36Original post

I had them on my other ‘04. Beautiful but the crappy Indiana roads destroyed them. I bet I had them straightened 3 or 4 times. Not an indictment of the wheels, just the Indiana roads. TC
