Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im going to be taking my car into a self service auto hobby shop soon to replace the rear lower control arms. Figure I should consider changing the oil and plugs while im at it. I dont know when they were last changed (I bought it only a couple months ago). Couple quick questions...ive looked on our forum pages here, and see Densos are the choice of many. Here are the plugs that most autopart stores offer online for a 2001 TT. Does anybody have any input on any of them? Ive always run NGKs in other cars, so they are in my crosshairs also. Oh, and do I have to change anything else with the plugs (i.e. coil packs?). As for oil, im thinking Mobil 5-50. Im assuming there are new washers/rings that need to be replaced at the same time? Any advice for my first run at it? Thanks in advance!!

POST 2Original post

I tried a set of those iridium single tip spark plugs in my 99/996 and promptly melted one of the tips. Changed out to the 4 post Bosch plugs recommended for my car. I would check out what Bosch recommends for your car. Depending on where you live, 5W-50 might be too heavy. I live in Florida, it is hot, and I run Mobil 1 0W-40 with no problems. I figure the 0W is better for initial startup circulation. Replace the crush washer every time under the oil drain plug. Always a good idea to have a new aluminum drain plug because they are so easily stripped out. Better yet, replace the soft aluminum drain plug with the LN magnetic drain plug because it is hardened material. Good luck and have fun.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Awesome, yeah I live in San Antone...so gets hot here as well. I guess ill just get one of the oil change kits then that comes with the 0-40, washers, etc. Any recs on where to get one of those magnet plugs? Got me wondering if I possibly have one in it already...car is sitting on a few nice mods already from when i bought it.
