Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm ready to pull the IMS from my 2002 Carrera and the center stud diameter and thread pitch is smaller than the ID of the threaded rod on both the LN Pro Kit and Faultless kit. Anyone else run into this and if so, how did you proceed?

POST 2Original post

Unfortunately or fortunately I did not run into that issue when I did the IMS on my 2002 996. Any photos of what is happening? Navarro or Raby should be able to help quickly.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm suffering from feelings of IMS stud inadequacies. Both of the hex stock pieces included have ID's too big for my IMS stud. LN replied quickly to my online inquiry and I'll follow up with them via phone. What I have won't work -- I'm curious as to why, however to keep my job moving forward I'm going to head the local machine shop and get another piece of bar stock tapped to match my stud and the LN puller. I'll post up what I get figured out.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update -- confirmed that I'm missing a part from my borrowed IMS Pro Tools kit. It's not obvious from the Installation manual that there is another piece between the puller rod and the IMS stud. The hex stock for the single row extraction is machined to match the M8x1.0 of the Porsche IMS stud and adapt the puller rod to larger diameter of the LN IMS stud. In the manual illustrations, the puller and adapter are already assembled. Makes sense once you see it. I'll have to wait a few days to get the appropriate part. Kudos to LN for being very fast to answer both electronic inquiries and a phone call. Great customer service. BTW...stock IMS bearing at 121k miles looks perfect. --Tyler
