In an attempt to halt the leaking, I over-tightened the filter and adapter.

I have a lot of L&N products on my C4S, they sell great products and I use many of them I plan on purchasing more.

That's why when I called Flat 6 to ask what sealant is preferred to be used with their kits.

I believe I did lubricated liberally with fresh engine oil, my plan was to snuggle it up, but while I'm doing the oil change I thought I would replace the O-ring

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My oil filter adapter has been on the car about 2 years, and it appears like there might be a leak from the adapter. Does anybody know the O-ring size for the adapter, or where to get one? Once I have it on a standby when I go change my oil. Thanks
Glenn
Maybe the adapter has worked loose a little?
Did you oil the ring before install, it needs to be slippery so when you tighten up the adapter, the rubber doesn't grip and pull the ring out of position?
If your ring is damaged message them at LN maybe?

I avoid communicating with them, even though I spent several thousand dollars buying their sleeves and pistons they told me they would not support me because I'm not a shop. That's why I prefer to send my questions elsewhere.
G
Hmmm... They would "not support you" or would not warranty their parts to you? While it may seem the same, it really isn't. In any case, Charles is on these pages quite often and seems to be a pretty fair and helpful guy. It would surprise me to hear him say "he wouldn't support you" i.e. - answer questions or furnish technical info. - I'm not doubting your word, just noting my surprise...
I had the LN filter adapter on my 987. Even though I fastidiously lubricated and seated the o-ring prior to installation, it dripped constantly.
In an attempt to halt the leaking, I over-tightened the filter and adapter. My bad. The leak never stopped.
I eventually got the adapter out of the car, but never got the old filter off the adapter. Back to the plastic housing and everything is great.
^^Check your messages!

Total waste of money, in my experience."
Sorry for your experience, but ^^that^^ was clearly user error...So you deem the part a "waste of money"? Just so you know, the idea of the screw on adapter is to address/fix the issue of the bypass valve in the stock cartridge filter housing. It doesn't have anything to do with the stock housing leaking. The instructions are pretty straight forward - if you torque the adapter to the specified tightness, it shouldn't leak. If it was over-tightened or if the filter was over tightened (I put mine on hand tight - it's never leaked) all bets are off.
You guys are killing me. I have had great customer service from LN. I have the oil filter adapter and it works great. Plus changing the spin-on oil filter is a piece of cake. I would never go back to the canister. One question - did you communicate your 987 problem to LN Engineering? If it is installed properly, I just can't think of anyway it could leak constantly. But I guess yours did, so did you ask them why?
Yes sir,
The O-Rings are the same as the factory as we based the design of the Spin-on adapters thread on the stock filter canister. If you would like to send me an email with your current address, we would be happy to send you out replacement o-rings at no-cost to you. Note, there is 1 large o-ring on the threads that go into the block and 1 small o-ring underneath the spud for the new metal canister oil filter. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

For future reference - these are the correct installation values:Spin on filter adapter
18 Ft/lb. with o-rings oiled using a 26mm Deep Impact Socket
Spin on oil filter cartridge
Snug plus approximately of a turn by hand, with filter gasket oiled.
Mr. Bukac,
Last email I have forwarded from the sales agent John (who no longer works for us) you were dealing with was a positive one, thanking him for the service he received. That email mentioned you called Flat 6 Innovations and you were unhappy with the service you received from them, but as you were not a Flat 6 customer, I don't expect the information you were seeking to be provided free of charge - Jake charges $350/hr for consults last time I checked. I can happily post the email you sent to us if you would like as a reminder.
If there is something that I need to correct that a member of my staff did wrong, I will gladly do so, but flaming my employees and company on a public forum without first contacting us with your issue (leaking o-ring) ins't very professional.
We do not tell or teach people how to rebuild their engines. Jake offers training for both professionals and enthusiasts alike for those willing to pay through The Knowledge Gruppe.
Again, if there is something we did wrong or need to correct, we should be the first to hear.
Why would anyone call any co
pany to gain support for a product that company doesnt sell, and more specifically did not sell to them? This is the exact reason why we havent sold any parts since 2009.
Further, why would anyone become upset that the company that did not sell them the component, (and has not received any business from them) would not support the product?
None of this makes any sense in regard to Flat 6. Our phone should have never rang in regard to this situation. We should have never even been mentioned.
I bought my sleeve and piston kit from Ln engineering about two and a half years ago. I was under the impression that Flat 6 and Ln worked very closely together. That's why when I called Flat 6 to ask what sealant is preferred to be used with their kits. I wasn't asking for a freebie, I offered to buy the sealant from them. But the response I got was that they had no clue. Do you remember this phone call?
Thanks for your feedback. I understand why I bought it, and I also went into the installation aware that others had leaks, and not to overtighten. No matter what torque setting I used, it leaked. yes,. in the end, I overdid it. Mea culpa.
I'm not trying to slag on the product or LNE. It's a gorgeous piece of CNC workmanship. For whatever reason, it didn't work out for me. Since I obviously over-torqued it at the end, I did not go back to LN and complain. I took my education and losses and moved on. Just sharing my experience. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that.
I chatted with Charles via email. This has all been blown out of proportion. The person that I had difficulties with and l&n is no longer with them. They have been very gracious and sent me the O-rings .
My intention was not to flame anyone. I apologize to anyone that feels flamed . I think this is all been cleared up. I have a lot of L&N products on my C4S, they sell great products and I use many of them I plan on purchasing more.
in addition these oil filter adapter is a very nice piece. It didn't leak for 2 years. I'm an aircraft mechanic and know about torque wrenches and I used one to install this adapter and everything else on my car. Adapter could have loosened up from heat cycling, who knows. Either way I apologize to LN and they've been very gracious and took care of the O-rings for me.
Sincerely
Glenn
We do not have any kits. We only develop and build complete engines. We do work closely with LN, but do not offer what they offer. They sell parts and etc. we only sell engines.
The reasons you were not instructed on what selaant use are:
1- When the engine leaks oil, it would be our fault.
2- Mr. Raby offers hands on classes that cover this content.
3- The sealants that we use are not available to the public.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
