Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally found the right car for me, an Arctic Silver Carrera 4 with black interior and approx. 110 000 miles on the odometer. As mentioned in this thread, it was located over 1100 miles away from where I live, so it was quite a trip driving it home. For those of you who have never been i Norway, the scenery in the Northern parts is almost worth the trip alone - let alone driving your new Porsche through it A few pics (from the ad, though) The engine was replaced with a 3.6L about 31.000 miles ago. A Carrera Power kit was also installed while replacing the engine. The gearbox has been overhauled in 2015, and the car itself is generally in a good condition. Gemballa lowering springs have also been fitted, these provide the Perfect blend between ride height and handling. There are a few marks here and there, but nothing extraordinary if you consider the age and mileage of the car, and the fact that it has been a DD. It drives and handles great, and the sound from the flat-six is just incredible. Further plans include deleting the rear windshield wiper, adjusting the handbrake and replacing the window regulator mechanism, as this failed just before I came to retrieve the car.

POST 5Original post

Looks like you have the optional OEM large exhaust tips... makes the rear of the 996 look much better IMO.

POST 7Original post

Nice car, The ride through Norway sounds perfect for a Porsche.

POST 10Original post

Congrats! Pleanty info on the regulator replacement, DIY jobs on this car are very satisfying (most of the time!).

I don't have the part # but I bought a set on ebay for my last 996 for around $80 if I remember right... I just kept searching for used tips every few days and eventually a set popped up that they didn't know what they had. They're very easy to spot the difference once you see a couple pics of them compared to the standard ones.

POST 16Original post

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your new 996, it looks great! The drive back must've been amazing 1. The roads 2. Scenery 3. Driving your own 911

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, guys Yes, the scenery with those twisty roads and curves really does it. As for the exhaust tips, I wasn't sure if was a part of the X-51 kit, PSE or some other sports exhaust. It sure does look and sound good. I think the stock ones simply are too small. Hopefully, I'll have time to address the window issue this friday.

POST 18Original post

Well done mate, hope you get many years of enjoyment out of it and do hit the Trollstigen as it's fun but can be challenging due to weather, etc. I loved visiting Norway, great people, scenery, food, just about everything.

POST 19Original post

Hey...both of us living the dream in the last few weeks. Congrats on your Silver C4.

POST 20Original post

All of us living the dream. I drove my Corvette ZR1 home today and parked it behind my 996. I've thought about selling all of my cars to buy something newer and faster but I wouldn't love it as much. The cars I love most are the ones I wanted when I was younger and couldn't afford them. Now thanks to depreciation and a great job, I have a variety of cool cars to choose from.

POST 24Original post

Nice looking car, and very cool having a 3.6 in a 996.1!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks again, guys Cosmo Kramer: yup, somewhat rare, at least here!

POST 27Original post

Very nice...and a good find with that 3.6. I finally joined the club last November.

POST 28Original post

Congrats! I am living my dream as well. I am debt free at 35, own my house, got my 911, and now just enjoying it, while working towards 911 Turbo as the next phase.

POST 37Original post

CONGRATS! Love the look of your new machine. I'm two years into my 2002 Cab and still can't wipe the smile off my face! You're in for a fantastic experience! Bill

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thans again, gentlemen! Volkert, I'll try to hang on to both my wife and my 911 Bill, that's how you know you made the right choice

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Yesterday I had a session in the garage, replacing brake pads and discs while preparing the car for this season. Next on the wishlist are a pair of sport mufflers. I haven't decided which brand to go for yet, but Dansk and FVD are hot candidates. I've also made up my mind about the "TV approved/not approved" issue that I posted some time ago. I will opt for the TV approved ones just to make sure I don't attract any unwanted attention as well as keeping the noise within the dB limits.
