Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I love my Tips and wouldn't own a stick based on the way I use my cars (DD in heavy traffic).
Leading evidence: 'Use cars (dd in heavy traffic)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is ''could' get worse' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use cars (dd in heavy traffic)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have a hip condition that i suspect 'could' get worse, so if i thought the tip could give me smiles as well...

Suggestion
If you hip condition is something that will get worse with use, I think the tip is a good choice.

I guess it comes down to budget/intended use of car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Its a 2002 C4s Coupe, 45,000 miles, Silver with terra-cotta interior. Tiptronic Passed the PPI.
Has some sundry rock chips, nothing serious.
$31.5l and 1,700 for the IMS bearing and RMS done as a preventative.
Now i'm a little dubious about the tiptronic but i think i can live with it.. i know thats a hornets nest, My only concern is when i get behind the wheel i don't want to think i'm driving a cow. I believe i can get the "experience" i want with tip driving.
Any comments on price and the dreaded tiptronic issue?
Interior is most likely Boxster Red, kind of a tomato soup color. Terra-cotta came years later I believe. Tip is great for a DD with lots of heavy rush hour traffic. 6 speed will have you grinning every time you drive it in everything but heavy stop and go traffic. We've had a Tip Boxster (wife's) for over 8 years, never heard of the Tip issue.
If you don't want a tiptronic, don't get one. I personally wouldn't even look at one to begin with. The PDK system is pretty cool if you want to be without a clutch pedal.
Have you driven it? I guess it comes down to budget/intended use of car.
Exactly, its tomato soup. I totally dig it. The TIP issues are in my head. Yes its a daily driver, No, the traffic is not a huge issue. I have a hip condition that i suspect 'could' get worse, so if i thought the tip could give me smiles as well... yea, i'd be tempted to go with it. I actually am intrigued by the tip functionality in that i can keep both hands on the wheel. I drive a mazda speed6 turbo now and have thought it would be handy to shift on the wheel.
In that case, I wouldn't push it. I'm not really sure what you're referring to with the "tip issue" but the MK2 996 uses the same automatic transaxle as the turbo, and there certainly shouldn't be any reliability issues with it.
Have you tried driving one of each? The C2/C4 clutches aren't that heavy, but again I'd play it safe if a doctor or the like suggests to avoid driving a manual trans car. That said, I'd really consider a push to a PDK if you could afford it, certainly much better compromise. At the lower price ranges, there's also the BMW e46 SMG M3 that's a great drive.
Pricing is good in my opinion. Tiptronic is fine.
The Tiptronic on the 2002+ is called Tiptronic S. Built by Mercedes for AMG cars - and sourced by Porsche to be able to handle the enormous torque and fast shifting needs of the Turbo.
Go for it.
I agree with the above advice. I love my Tips and wouldn't own a stick based on the way I use my cars (DD in heavy traffic). Having said that If I were you, before I "settled" on a Tip, I would drive one to ensure you won't have buyers remorse after the transaction.
My DD is a 06 Mazdaspeed6. Is that how you got your hip condition?
The clutch is the speed6 sucks compared to a 996. The 996 is much more linear with a smoother uptake. Actually, you can say that about any manual trans car compared to the speed6.
Pricing is pretty spot on. That doesn't mean I still wouldn't negoitate for the best deal.
If you hip condition is something that will get worse with use, I think the tip is a good choice. And as previously metioned, the 02+ tips are better tips.
The key is to enjoy the car. If you have a little wince of pain with every clutch step, then you should definately get a tip.
Good luck.
I have noticed the discomfort lately and who knows. I was thinking if TIP is an similar performer i'd go with it and see what happens.
Problem is i can't find a TIP up her in AK to drive! All the C4S' I'm looking at are "Outside"
