We had one of those at my dealership that was never used, we used the high dollar electric lift table table for engine/trans removal/installation, and just for holding engine in place we used the bolt on engine support, or just a tall lift jack stand.

I decided to pick it up just to have it, but now I am using it to lower my engine to get access to the AOS and change the coolant tank while my transmission is out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So a local fellow put up an ad for a M96/M97 engine jacking plate. I went to take a look, turns out the guy used to swap bigger engines into Boxsters years ago but got out of it. One of the engines that he purchased from Porsche had this plate on the bottom. It has 2 pins to lock into the block, plus a bunch of other points of support. It was the first time I had ever seen one, has anyone else? I decided to pick it up just to have it, but now I am using it to lower my engine to get access to the AOS and change the coolant tank while my transmission is out. It really seems to support the engine nice and steady. Glad I found it!

POST 3Original post

Very nice!! Wonder if a dealer might have one lying around?

It's looks like something that was used at the factory and was forgotten by accident. Its great because the oil sump isn't used at all for support. Just did the AOS and coolant tank last night, gave me the clearance I needed to drop it out.

It looks like it would be easy enough to reproduce... How about posting up the dimensions for the rest of us poor slobs who work on our own cars...?

POST 6Original post

Do you have calipers to take measurements for us!?

POST 7Original post

A thread somewhere around here showed the OP using an ATV jack from HB. It seems to work awesomely. (Is that a word?) https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-l...ift-60536.html

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

^^ That would work well with this mount. My trans jack with the platform that tilts was really ideal, allowed me to angle it perfectly. I will be putting the engine back on its mounts in a couple weeks. Once it is down i will measure it up and post here.

POST 9Original post

Cosmo, thanks! I want to build one now! Should be pretty easy to weld one up if you can share a decent set of measurements. Seems like it would be very useful.

In for dimensions.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 14798741

That lift works kinda well. The issue is if you are fully dropping the engine, the lift does not go high enough to support the motor, so you need to add 4x4 (or other wood). Once you are ready to lower the motor, it does not go low enough to clear the rear of the car when pulling the motor out with the 4x4s on the lift, so you have to jack the car up higher so the motor clears.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok here is a quick diagram I made and some closeup pics. I think the round standoffs could be made with a bolt and some washers. The other three mounts I dunno...

POST 16Original post

I can draw things up really fast so I started a model/drawing in solidworks for this which I can give out to the folks on the forum who want it. Here's a screengrab, however the drawing is missing dimensions. Boss C is missing an offset from the left hand or right hand side Feature A seems to be missing some dimensions on the hook piece B1/B2 is missing a dim from the thru hole to the base of the feature The plate doesn't seem to have a thickness shown The Bolts with sharp ends are missing dims and thread types If someone could provide the info missing I can wrap this up today and make it available. Thanks!

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow thanks Chris Boss C is flush with the outside edge of the plate. The plate (I think) is 1/2" thick but I will verify. I will get additional dimensions of the hook piece

POST 18Original post

Hi Chris, Could I have a copy of that file when you're finish? .sldprt please and thank you

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are the dimensions of the claw. Plate is 10 mm. As for the bolts, I don't think the thread is critical, they only thread into the boss on the fixture and not into the engine itself. The end of the bolt that slides into the casting has a tapered end and ends up at a diameter of 11 mm.

POST 20Original post

By some bizzare cosmic coincidence, I read this thread earlier today, and now, I was going through a shop manual pdf and stumbled upon this. Look familiar? It's even got a part number! Your welcome

POST 21Original post

I searched using the part number and I found this: https://www.fvd.net/us-en/1907219592...late-9592.html Now everyone can buy one.

POST 22Original post

Damn! Reminds me of the $600 + wheel hub puller I didn't buy... I made one for about $10 worth of scrap steel

POST 25Original post

Any savvy members able to estimate what it would cost to build? Furthermore how much would it cost to pay someone to build it? Cosmo & Chris - Thanks for your efforts. PN or not this homebrew effort is fantastic.

Think I'm still missing the bolt hole to top surface dimension and the thread type/pitch. I have it as an M12x1.5 right now:

Ever wonder why your local dealership charges more than your local Indy? These tools are sent alone with the "essential tools package" that is automatically sent along with the bill. We had one of those at my dealership that was never used, we used the high dollar electric lift table table for engine/trans removal/installation, and just for holding engine in place we used the bolt on engine support, or just a tall lift jack stand.

From the base to the center of the bolt is 30 mm . Center of hole to top is 8.5 mm. Very little material above the bolt hole .

POST 29Original post

Ok I think I got my CAD stuff all done now. I can supply the Solidworks native files, STEP, IGES and PDF drawing for folks. Perhaps if someone has some kind of hosting I could email it them and they could share it out? DM me for my email address. Thanks
